Congratulations PP! Lovely name :) I miss those early days, life was so simple, changing nappies and feeding and little else <broody> :D

Anyway back to a demanding 23 week old...

    Any opinions on highchairs?

Looking at three of various prices, what have you got, what's good about a highchair, and are any of these worth their price tags?!

I've got the Prima Pappa Evo, second hand from a friend of a friend. It was in a vile filthy condition when it arrived and took me ages to clean, loads of nooks and crannies although I did feel confident that it was spotless by the time I'd finished.

    Pros
It folds up with the tray attached
    It is height adjustable
It has wheels to make it more portable
It is easy to fold up once you get the knack

    Cons
It takes up too much space
    It's heavy to move around
It isn't particularly sturdy, a bit plasticky for my liking
The seat cushions are rubbish, mine is really badly split and having done some research on the net this is a common problem. I've emailed M&P but they haven't replied yet, to find out if they sell replacements. Someone on another forum said they managed to get a cushion, but it cost them £40.
Nooks and crannies, awkward to clean.
The tray is too high for baby to get at easily when they start to feed themselves.

All things considered, a big thumbs down from me!

Fac - I did loads of research on highchairs before deciding - of course anything expensive would have been second hand off Ebay. I think the tripptrapp thingy is very popular with parents as are the booster seats. And another clear winner - and my choice - the Ikea Antilop chair. What actually did it for me in the end were the photos of babies on the website you looked at about BLW.
Of course if someone wants to deliver the egg-pod that would be very cool!

Stupidly easy to clean, easy to transport, sturdy. My only problem with it is the table is not big enough - I'm forever picking stuff off the floor - but then what would be big enough for excited baby armed with a spoon.

Mazcabs - I hope he gets better soon - I have no advice to give, last time I had a cough I had it for three weeks right at the end of my pregnancy. Horrible (felt really sorry for poor baby).

I tried a different tactic with J today - I gave him milk at usual times and moved the meals away to in between times. He still has yet to refuse a spoon, although we had a 'eugh' face with the first spoon of both meals - I am dreading him disliking foods, as have spent countless hours preparing all sorts for the freezer. Anyway, he had most of his milk yeay! Although I think he was hungry as I got a lot of screaming crying for no reason. Unless he's secretly teething.
He's so tiny he is half the size of a six month old we know. Not even 15lbs yet. This is a boy two weeks overdue, born at 8.1lbs.

Ooh, one thing came to my attention. I was quite happy to cook for him and avoid jars in everyday life, but have heard from several people that it is a good idea to introduce these tastes at weaning stages, so they do not refuse them when you're out and about. Any experiences of this?

I don't know if it's true or not, but I do give a mixture of home cooked food and jars for that reason Agutka, and also because I'm not very confident at cooking meat (usually cook vegetarian things, although I'm not actually veggie), but want her to get used to as many flavours and texture as as possible.

Actually - does anyone know if babies can have quorn, and if so, from what age?

I'm bad at cooking meat personally, but apart from that, I was pureeing veg last night and thought about having to do it with entire meals and that is just a disgusting thought. I know they don't know any better, but how gross. Pureed shepherds pie? Hmm, better go shopping then. I was in sainsburys' yeasterday, but nothing appealed to me.

    Oh, and a little google:
A: Quorn products are perfectly safe for children and babies but because of the high energy requirements demanded by the rapidly growing child, we do not recommend that Quorn products replace meat totally in the diet of young children and babies (less than 3 yrs old) because of their low energy densities(number of calories per gram) and satiating (satisfaction of appetite) effects. However as part of a well balanced diet Quorn products are perfectly safe to introduce to young children in small amounts.

I would not have thought of that, I'd have thought of salt content instead.

  • Quorn has egg in it too.

What about lentils instead? yum yum.

Isn't something like shepherds pie already quite a good texture?
  • In other news Elliot almost crawled yesterday _pale_ he ha perfected the backwards shuffle and can move around relatively fast like this but hadn't budged an inch forwards before now:eek:

Yes, probably. But remember I don't know what I'm doing, so I am pureeing fruit and veg like there's no tomorrow. He'll probably be 18 and wondering what teeth are for :rotfl:

Just as well hubby and I are doing a store cupboard challenge and all our dinners come out of freezer/tins/packets with not much cooking to do. Although I wouldn't be surprised if he gets handed a soft tipped spoon and bowl full of orange gloop in the near future :p

I don't think any vitamins survive the Agutka treatment...

Is he doing this early or is J really slow? (I refuse to get worried about my tiny baby)
Imagine what he'll be able to do when you finally give him that broccoli!
Well done Elliot :T Can I hire him to walk my dog? That will give you an hour's rest :D

LOL! I think it is early but to compensate he has stopped all cute gurgling and cooing noises, he can't roll from front to back, and can't sit up. So I think ALL his energy is going into getting moving and it is making for a very tiring household. Nothing is good enough for him anymore except trying to crawl. I'd rather he would wait another 6 months or so...

DO NOT worry about J he is just lovely :)
