I did the sellotape thing just last week! Imogen's only in disposables overnight and we buy the biodegradable ones - not very MSE but helps my conscience. Anyway, the tab on one broke so I sellotaped it back on again and the nappy was fine! I also regularly take the poo out of her reall nappies if they are dry and she's not had them on long. (Poo-ing in a clean and fluffy nappy seems to be prefereable to doing it in a soggy one - sod's law!)

Septemberbaby - normal, normal, normal! Please carry on posting your feelings, it's what we're here for. I think your attitude of just enjoying your baby is a great one, otherwise you'll spend all your time with a feeling of foreboding.

Bailey & Michelle - fingers crossed for movement soon. Very excited for you both, sending lots of labour vibes! Oh & Michelle - I'd have done the exact same thing about nursery, esp if you're paying for it anyway. Don't feel guilty, it'll be the last 'me' time you get for a while!

SIL has just announced she's pregnant :T It's v early days so keeping everything crossed, but just soooo pleased for them as it took a couple of years and some medication to help them conceive their DS. It will be an October baby if her dates are right. It's making me v. broody again though ;)

Sorry to hear you two are struggling. Hope baby arrives soon bailey, and that you get some relief soon cha97michelle xx

Got a question to ask - am I sad or a savvy MSE'er?

I put Charlottes nappy on earlier and one of the tabs that fastens it shut tore off. So I improvised and sellotaped her into the nappy.

Hubby thinks I'm sad and for the sake of about 4p I should have just chucked it and put a fresh nappy on.

    What would you have done?

It's more like 7-10p for some brands. I had this happen the other week too, and i am afraid i just binned it as it was before bed and i have already had too many of them leak without starting off defective. If i had thought about it though, daytime i would probably do what you did, but really i should have emailed them to complain and hopefully got some free vouchers. ;)

lu thanks for saying you would do it too. Doesn't quite fit in with what i want to do, but needs must, and i deserve some rest too as i still have 12 weeks till the due date, and as you say, it will not be possible to get 'me' time at other times.

bailey i'm hanging in there. DH has been fab over the weekend helping out with DS, but DS is definitely off it, as he was very grumpy all weekend and just wanted to be held and cuddled. At one point he was on my knee asleep for an hour which really crippled me later.

Today has been a good tonic as i have done some house stuff, and about to do some school work too. So i may actually feel on top of things and be a bit happier.

glad the reflexologist made you feel a bit better,

Purplepatch, you second guessed my thoughts when you said that. I was thinking "oh no, oh no................". I'd love a baby like SB this time around, think we had our fair share with Jack. Lovely lad he is though, myhusband keeps saying to me " But look at his personality and the way he is with people, that more than makes up for everything else, I'd rather have Jack than a baby who never smiled and interacted like ***** baby.". He's right but I'm longing for an easier ride this time.
Well, the law of averages and all that! You must be due an easier time of it this time around.

One little observation I've found over the past month. With my second, I do think I've been different from the first time. Both me and DH think we were tougher with Olivia, let her cry for a while etc so that she learned to settle herself. With Izzy, when she has woken, I've pretty much run to her every time, given her milk etc, because it has quickly quietened and settled her which was the most important thing to me as I was always worried about her disturbing Olivia.

But enough was enough and about a month ago we totally toughened up on her. Last milk at bedtime, if she wakes, we've offered water and not got her out of the cot, just left her to cry it out, even if it meant 3 hours of crying. And it hasn't disturbed Olivia once. And do you know, it took just a few days for the penny to drop and Izzy has consistently slept through 7pm to 7am for over a couple of weeks now. Feeling so much happier and better for being able to catch up with some sleep.

Anyway, just thought I'd share that, in the hope that it might help any second timers - don't do it the way I did!

Thanks for that tip PP, I know I will be tempted to do the same so as not to disturb Jack, but I guess it doesn't help in the long run eh? I'll show this to DH when he gets home from work, not expecting him till much later though. Mondays are always so late, last week it was 2.30am as there was server problems. He did 7 extra hours in one day and won't get lieu for it! Its just expected.
  • How do you do the 7pm to 7am bit? We are still trying to crack that one. We are still hovering around the 6am mark. I KNOW its ONLY an hour, but in the middle of the winter 6am is still too early!!!
  • Did anyone do dream/top up feeds before they went to bed at 10, 11 12pm whatever time you go?

We didn't with Jack as my hairdresser told me she made that mistake with her first one and he expected milk all the time and she found it better to let the other two sleep till they woke, even if it was only a few hours after you went to bed. Because she had 3 boys and we were novices, we followed her lead.

However plenty of people i know have done dream feeds/top up successfully and now I'm wondering if this may be an option for us too, then potentially only one antisocial feed to do at night.

Sorry about all the questions at the moment, you can tell I am due to drop can't you? I thought I'd be less worried at I "know" what I am doing second time around, but its just a different ball game that's all. At least we'll have nappies and dressing sussed out this time! I can still remember Jack's first nappy change taking both us ages to do!
  • I loved dreamfeeds :D

I did it when DS started to go to sleep earlier and earlier by himself, then I'd top him up before I went to bed. Even now, 'cos he's not very well and not taking even 500ml of milk during the day I give him another feed before going to bed myself. He rarely properly wakes during it - I've everything ready beforehand, and he sleeps in a sleeping bag.
    The IVF worked;DS born 2006.

I remember watching on the baby whisperer about dream feeds, i've not tried dream feeding Adam as he's only been waking once of a night time.

we had an appointment with the consultant today who seems happy enough with Adam's progress, she took some more blood off the poor little mite to retest his thyroid as the last result's were borderline for an underactive thyroid, so we will find out the results from the test today on Monday next week. Adam was also weighed today and at 8 weeks old he now weighs 7lbs 2oz :D
If everyone cared and nobody cried, if everyone loved and nobody lied, if everyone shared and swallowed their pride then we'd see the day when nobody died.

Well I did the dreamfeeds with DS1 and DS2 (although I didn't know they were called that) and they didn't sleep through until they were more than 18 months old.

With Samantha, I haven't done the dreamfeeds - don't kow why - probably because it didn't really work for us before hand. Samantha wakes once, occassionally twice a night and I can't (and don't) complain.

You know you are in for a bad night when they have had you up once before it has even reach midnight.

Regarding the nappy rash - I am making a GP appointment tomorrow. I have tried long enough on my own.

How is everyone else enjoying the half term break. We are quite enjoying it and the weather is fab, so happy days. If it stays around for a few more days I might brave a solo trip with me and 3 children to London  .

Well, I wish I could answer that for you, but no idea, just Izzy's time for waking!
