Charlotte is 9 months now, and is on 3 meals a day plus a pint of formula milk.
I've tried water and diluted juice, but she only has a few sips at a time. I've started putting water in a cup with a lid and spout and leaving it near where she is playing, then offering it to her every so often. She is drinking more doing it that way. I stick with water in the cup as she has a habit of shaking it so the liquid sprays out all over the place
She is very interested in what I'm drinking and often tries to snatch the glass/cup out of my hands before it reaches my mouth! She drinks more water out of my glass than her own. She's desperate to have a drink out of hubby's beer cans too :rotfl:Here I go again on my own....0 -
Ds is 13 months and still isn't very interested in drinking. When he was off his food this week I ended up making jellies and stuff in order to get some fluid into him. Don't worry about it - nursery certainly aren't worried about him, and I think they see more babies than I do...lol.The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0

She is gorgeous and you don't look too bad either considering what went on prior to those one and half days!
We don't mind pics at all, its nice to see all the newborns. Just don't forget to update every few months as they grow so quickly. I remember once when Becles posted a pic of Charlotte and then didn't update it for a while, when she did, I did a double take, I couldn't believe how much she had grown.
Speaking of which Jack's pic was taken last November so he's due for an update, but it will probably wait until this one pops out. If ever........ I'm into unknown territory, 38 weeks tomorrow!
Oopps, sorry just realised I had posted out of sequence, I hadn't read pg 104.
Re the drinking, my friends baby doesn't drink that much either, although he is starting to get a bit better now at 12 months and he's formula feed. I don't think they would let themselves go thirsty for no reason and would drink water if they were. Just keep a beaker handy and keep offering it.
I have the other problem at times, Jack loves his water too much and its often a mouthful of food, sip of water etc etc, which fills him up too quickly with fluid. I've tried not giving him the beaker until he's eaten a good few mouthfuls, sometimes it works, sometimes he refuses a second mouthful until the beaker appears. Have you tried a Tommy Tippee beaker or a free flow beaker with a spout, that he could grab and drink from without your support? That way he would be able to drink even when your not close by. Like Becles I leave a beaker of water on the floor or at Jack height all day long, so he can sip little and often. Like Charlotte, Jack is always trying for our drinks and as a rare treat is very partial to a dipped dummy in Daddy's wine.
Which reminds me of a funny story, on my birthday last week we had my parents and Jack's guardians around in the evening for pizza and drinks. Jack was in bed woke once and resettled and then woke half hour later being very upset. As he had a viral thing we brought him downstairs (not something we'd usually do but as it was my birthday we didn't want one of us upstairs for ages at a time). We gave him medised and some water and cuddled him for a while. Then he saw his Daddy walk past with a bottle of wine, practically leaned out of my arms and spit his dummy out at the same time. He remembered from New Year's Eve when he had his dummy dipped then and wanted the same. Daddy ended up with Jack on his lap and sharing red wine for a few mins, until Mummy said he'd had enough and it was time for bed! It didn't knock him out though, I was up with him a few hours later. But the poor chap was under the weather.
Its nice to know that occassionally we can break his routine and he doesn't expect it every night.
We are still waiting for more teeth, how's everyone doing on that score? Jack got his first at 10.5 months, proceeded to cut 7 in 7 weeks and then nothing since. I'd love him to get some side ones to help him eat better, not that I want the teething agro though.0 -
Ah, teeth! Imogen only dreams of them :rotfl:
She's now 13 months and has two, one at the top and one at the bottom at the front. We have plenty of 'teething' side-effects, just no actual pearly whites appearing! She has mastered ripping bits of bread now she has two together, but has also started grinding them. It makes my back creep just typing it :eek:MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -

16 teeth here at 15 months. The last twice, four have come all at once. These latest four have had no problems, but that will now just leave the last 4 back ones, which you can bet arrive when we are in the middle of sleep deprivation with the other baby. :rotfl:
Big congratulations to heather. Charlie will also be 2 in october, and scarily new baby will be about 6 months by then. Sounds like a good gap, and your DD should be quite independent when you are bigger in late pregnancy. I am really pleased with charlie as he has just walked down the stairs for me holding tightly to my hands, but so much easier on me than carrying all 25 pounds of him down the stairs as well as my extra bulk. He's walked up for a few months, but been reluctant to try down till now.
bailey - 38 weeks - well done you for still being around. I don't blame you for getting in some baby formula just in case. I agree nothing worse than having a screaming baby, no formula and sore boobs that aren't providing the goodies. I had an emergency tin last time, and i will be getting one this time too, as one bottle doesn't mean failure.
I've had a bit of a rough week. I was sent home from work with a really bad pain on wednesday, and had to be sent to the hospital for monitoring. The baby is fine, but i have a water infection. The midwifes at the hospital were a bit shirty with me and said i should have gone to labour ward, but we had rang my community midwife and she said go to the antenatal clinic, so i did. The dr we saw was brilliant, but hopefully i will not have to test how nice they are again. Another case of the shoddy NHS, and makes me dread the birth end and poor hospital treatment again.
I am trying to get through the next week till half term so i can have a bit of a rest. I am going to leave charlie in nursery all week. I would normally take him out for a few days to spend time with him, but longer term i need to clear some school work and have a rest so i can get to the end.
anyway, best get on with some school bits now - its lovely to pop in and catch up on your news.

Izzy's got 10 teeth at 15 months, but was quite a late starter, first 2 at 10-11 months. The others have come through in quick succession, so Lu, you might get a surprise one morning and find a load coming through at once. Makes for some happy days I can vouch for that :rolleyes::rolleyes:
And congratulations Heather!! :T0 -
Hey thanks everyone for your kind replies re the lack of drinking. That has put my mind at rest, I know he is fine. I will just continue to offer it him and see what happens.

Hello there, I'm new on this board although I use MSE religiously - and I have been reading through some posts. You sound like a nice bunch!
I have a baby who is nearly seven months old. I have been very lucky in that everything has been very easy and he is a good boy. I only have one little niggle at the moment that you might be able to help me with.
DS is breastfed and is well underway with weaning, and will eat anything I prepare. He has a whizzed up version of our meal, plus I like to give him chunkier pieces of food to eat, plus he has a booby after each meal and before bed. So I think he has a nice varied diet. My problem is that he doesn't want to drink much water or juice, anything like that. He drinks lovely out of a doidy cup (no lid) but only small amounts. Like literally a few sips.
Do you think this is ok? Any help appreciated!

And welcome to the thread :T0 -
After saying last week that I was worried because Charlotte hasn't been sitting up, and I was going to take her to the clinic today, she's been sitting up!
If you sit her on a spot, she'll sit there for ages now. She's still wobbly and falls over if she over reaches for something, but she's happy sitting there as long as she has plenty of stuff around her to amuse her.
May or may not take her to the clinic now. It's not really convenient to be honest. She normally has lunch about 12.30pm, then goes in her cot for a 3 hour nap. The clinic is on from 1.30-3.15pm, so it's bang in the middle of nap time. It's best to get there in the middle of the session, as parking is horrendous and everyone turns up for 1.30, and by the end, people are turning up to park for the school next door to the clinic! Here I go again on my own....0
