Came home and showed DH and was slightly unsure of how he would react. I half thought he would think that I am already setting myself up to fail with bf if i'm buying formula. But he actually didn't say that at all, which was nice. I just explained that I thought it would be unrealistic to get through 6 months without a single bottle, even if we give the odd night one. And the last thing I want is a crying newborn on my hands who I can't satisfy and it being 3am in the morning. I've decided to play safe.
I'll definitely give bf another go but i feel better knowing I have a tub of formula if we need it. You just know its always going to be in the middle of the night when everything is closed (no 24 hour supermarkets around here).
I think that's a sensible idea. We gave Alice 2x3oz bottles of formula (thanks to our 24 hr Tesco) on the third night because I was so sore I just couldn't face breastfeeding (we rang the hospital ward and they advised to do that) and then 2oz formula with 1oz of expressed milk the next night. I was all in a stress that giving her the bottles would stop her breastfeeding but it didn't at all and my midwife was really supportive and a great help the next morning. The midwife who came at the weekend though was really funny about it and acted like one bottle of formula would counteract all the benefits of breastfeeding which is not true as even just one breastfeed is beneficial to a baby. If we hadn't given the bottles we would have had a crying hungry baby all night before the midwife could come in the morning and I don't think it interfered with breastfeeding at all. That's quite a ramble but I just wanted to say that it's a sensible idea and I don't think it's setting yourself up to fail and I would do the same next time to save OH having to go out in the middle of the night for formula.cha97michelle wrote: »I've had a bit of a rough week. I was sent home from work with a really bad pain on wednesday, and had to be sent to the hospital for monitoring. The baby is fine, but i have a water infection. The midwifes at the hospital were a bit shirty with me and said i should have gone to labour ward, but we had rang my community midwife and she said go to the antenatal clinic, so i did. The dr we saw was brilliant, but hopefully i will not have to test how nice they are again. Another case of the shoddy NHS, and makes me dread the birth end and poor hospital treatment again.
Teeth: Alice got one at eight months and no sign of any others. Our neighbour's grandaughter didn't have any till she was one and then got ten at once. :eek:0 -
Just to let you all know Sainsburys have half price baby items at the moment (excluding nappies unfortunately) but including baby wipes, maternity stuff, etc:heart2: Charlie born Aug 2007 :heart2: Reece born May 2009

Also in case some of you haven't seen this, the March issue of Pregnancy & Birth magazine comes with a whopping £13 worth of Huggies vouchers (for wipes and newborn nappies, but most Tesco and Asda stores should take them for anything!). The mag is £2.70 and is likely to sell out very quickly0

I only made Charlotte one as the older children talked non stop about pancakes for 3 days, so I had no choice about making them :rotfl:Here I go again on my own....0 -

Same here, I hadn't even remembered it was pancake day until Olivia got home from school asking where her pancakes were!! Luckily for lazy old me, I had a pack of Auntie Bessies in the freezer, 50 seconds in the microwave jobs! So Izzy tucked into her first ever pancakes with maple syrup and she certainly made light work of it, it was all gone in next to no time :rotfl:0 -
Am thinking I'll make them tonight for her tea before I go to fat club.
I bet she'll enjoy them, if she can eat for her snotty nose and whining. She has a cold, bless her. I'm hoping she has my immune system and it'll be gone soon, rather than OH's - in which case she'll have it for about 6 months :rotfl:MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090
