charlie was jaundiced for the first couple of months. Fine now. They ended up running loads of tests on him for genetic diseases via blood tests taken from his heels, hands, and then ankles when they couldn't get any more from the normal route.
I finally got a phonecall months later when i had forgotten all about it telling me he was fine.
Apparently breast fed babies find it much harder to remove the bilrubin that causes jaundice from their bodies. A baby is classed as jaundiced if the amount of this in their blood is a certain percentage of their body weight. I think it was 10%. If the levels get too high, particularly in that first bit where they lose weight anyway it is easy to get above this level, and if the level raises too much it can cause brain damage, which is why they are so fussy about it.
Methods you would normally use for clearing it is treatment with uv light, which is done in hospital. Charlie had 2 days of this when tiddly. It was a bit of a pain as he wasn't allowed home for a week, and i had to sit in a room with the silly light on and it gave me a mega headache,
hope your baby only has a minor case of it.
Unfortunately with this time of year, you could try and self treat with leaving baby in sunlight, but there isn't an abundance of it around.
I really hope this clears up naturally for you.

Congratulations Becles!! :T (and Charlotte :T)
I hope they send vouchers, it would be much easier.
Just thought it was worth mentioning I asked in Asda yesterday and you can use any vouchers, even for products you haven't bought, up to 10% of your shopping bill, so you might not even have to just buy nappies with them. :shhh:
And OMG where would you store a year's supply of nappies!
Well done Charlotte!!! :T:j0 -
Yorkshirechick wrote: »Hi All,
Just wanted to ask if anyone's baby had jaundice for more than 10 days?
The midwife has been this morning and she says she is really pleased with how me and Taylor are doing, and she's discharged me, but she wants to come in 4 days as Taylor is still jaundiced. She said if it hasn't gone by then, he'll have to go to the hospital to see a paediatrician.
Has anyone else had this?
Is there anything I can do to help it go?
Thanks

Good luck, I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.0 -

). Does anyone know the difference? Are they just old stock? After 14 weeks of baby I thought I knew it all :rotfl:
I've got a big stash of nappies, some from before Alex was born, and some are slightly different from the rest.
I seem to remember you accumulated quite a stash as well, SB0 -
hello all, it's all change for us this last week or two, kennedy is finally finding her feet at 14 1/2 months, she's been cruising the furniture since 10 months but far too lazy to walk! we've also got 3 new teeth in the last 2 weeks including a molar that i noticed for the first time today. and she has started to be really fretful at bedtime. she's been going down at 7pm since she was 4 months and now she refuses to go down and screams the house down, i've tried not putting her down in the afternoon for a nap, more milk, later dinner time but nothing is working so we are doing controlled crying.
and she's started waking in the night again, but we have new neighbours and they are really noisy so it might be them, they woke me up this morning at 2am having very loud sex, i swear the woman was having an hour long orgasm!!
congratulations to all the new mums and to baby charlotte for getting to the final 12.

Hi Heather, we seem to be in a very similar place to you, Izzy's also 14 and a half months and has stacks of teeth coming through at once. She just won't settle at bedtime, perhaps goes off for an hour, but then screams the house down. I tried leaving her for a while as DH is out tonight (he has a much shorter crying threshold than me) but after half an hour she was still going strong so I relented and she is down here at the moment, chuckling and chattering away to herself:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: I just give up!!!
Really feel for you with the neighbour situation, it's gross isn't it listening to that. We used to have a neighbour like that, she made such a racket that she'd set her dog off barking too. We can look back at it and laugh now, but at the time it was a bloody nightmare:mad:
Right, off to try putting her down again, not holding out too much hope, she looks wide awake. Unlike her mummy! Hope Kennedy settles again soon, this teething malarkey is rubbish.0 -
I know Pampers changed some (if not all) of their packaging a while ago, could this be why?

Thanks, Dormouse. I have used a few today and they appear to be the same.
Yes, I admit I was the secret nappy stasher whilst preggers but eventually exchanged a few packs of newborn Huggies at Asda before the birth (didn't even buy them from Asda :rotfl::o). Currently using size 2 but already have 6 packs of size 3 waiting in the wings (they were on offer in Boots with bonus points - and each one also has a pack of wipes enclosed :j too much of a temptation to resist....I'm obviously a promotors dream!).
Oh, and you should see the food stockpile I have ready for weaning.....!!!

Charlotte had it for about 3 weeks, but it was just mild so they didn't do any tests.
She was born in May, so I used to put her by the window when it was sunny which helped a lot. Difficult this weather, but if we get any sunny spells, it's worth a try. Here I go again on my own....0 -
Congratulatinos becles on the competition, the vouchers/nappies will be so useful which ever way you use them.
Jack was jaundiced for over 2 weeks when born, but it was milk and it cleared once he was put onto bottles. Apparently the MW said my milk supply was so low that he wasn't getting enough food to kick it off. Once we put him on bottles he started to gain weight, 13 oz in one week if I remember correctly. There wasn't much sunlight around then either but we put him in the window just for day light.
I have a stock of nappies at the top of this new one's wardrobe, planning on exchanging sizes if I've bought too many of size 1, have some size 2 and one pack of size 3. Back in August Tesco had 1/3 off so I stocked up for both babies.
Feeling really p*ss*d off this morning, my mum kindly offered to have Jack last night, DH and I went round for dinner and DH had to reset my mum back online as he pc had been out of action for several weeks. It did take a while, so I watched a film. By the time he'd finished it was 11.45, we got home remember we had a load of meat defrosting in the kitchen for a massive cook up today (in prep for new arrival), and some had leaked water etc over the units. By the time we'd cleared that up, DH had folded the washing that he was supposed to have done inthe afternoon and went to bed it has 12.30am. Then DH decided he needed some "attention" and I didn't like to deprive him as there has been so little action this pregnancy. But due to the AD's he's on, things weren't working so we finally gave up at 1.30am. Then I couldn't get to sleep, I think I was just so over tired and uncomfortable I tossed and turned. Finally got off and woke up 5 hours later. So I've actually had several hours less sleep than if Jack had been here. I'm feeling annoyed too as its probably the last time my mum can have Jack now until the baby is born and I wanted to make the most of a long sleep, lie in etc. Instead I am feeling resentful and annoyed whilst DH is still snoozing in bed.
I'm going to ask him to turn our mattress over, i'm sure its dipping in the middle, whereever I lie I can't relax properly. I'm hoping she'll come shortly after the 28th, I'll be 37 weeks then, can go to the local birthing centre and I get my birthday in beforehand too. Selfishly, I would like to spend the day with just one child to think about and definitely not be in labour. We also have a 1 year old party to go to that day as well.
I've had a few brown shows this week, she feels so low in my pelvis and i get quite uncomfortable braxton hicks at times. Sometimes my bladder gets sharp pains where she moves, so i'm hoping she will hang in there for 1 more week.
Anyway I came online to check my emails, have a good sunday everyone.0 -
poor you Bailey, you sound like things just aren't going right at the moment. Try not to get too stressed - it is really hard work looking after a little one and being pregnant - and OH's can be like having an extra child sometimes can't they? Hope today pans out better for you. Has the midwife indicated that your baby could come early (sorry if you have mentioned this as sometimes i don't get chance to read all the previous posts). Maybe you could ask your mum to have your son later on today or tomorrow to give you a break - especially as last night didn't turn out so well. You could spend some quality time with him today knowing that later on you can have some peace.
I am due on 28 Feb and although i am looking forward to having baby here - i am also scared witless about whether he will be OK and just how i will cope. Sometimes the people that could help us don't help and sometimes the help comes too late - if you know what i mean. It must be hard for you with your OH if he is struggling. I suffer with depression and it is hard for a family when one of the adults suffers as it makes life very difficult for everyone.
Anyway - hope you get a good nights sleep tonight - things always look a bit brighter when your not totally knackered.now mum of 4!!!0
