It depends on if you can escape quickly or not if you need to! I've been to organised displays where you are penned in and you can't move till it's finished.
We've got some fireworks to set off in the garden for the boys. I'll be either out with Charlotte watching them, or we'll have to hide away in the house together if she's scared! Here I go again on my own....0 -
I'm not taking Katie to a firework display or having fireworks at home as we have pets that get really stressed at this time of year so we can't leave them.
For the dog the 2 stresses of the fireworks and us leaving would probably tip her over the edge and who knows what she'd do - she has a destructive streak when stressed.

I've missed MSE too! And I had to reset my laptop to factory defaults on Monday (don't ask) so I've had to search through the forums to find this thread
Imogen has just started crawling at the weekend so we've got to move everything up a level. She's not pulling herself up yet though. I'm inclined not to invest in 'proper' shoes until she's properly walking. I'd love her to have some of those soft shoes, but she just pulls everything off her feet so I know they wouldn't stay on for longer than a few minutes. Know what you mean about it being a bit cold for bare feet, but what can you do?!
She's been a bit ill the last few days. Chesty cough that results in her throwing up. Nice. Hubby had the day off with her yesterday as I had a meeting I couldn't rearrange (plus if I don't work, I don't get paid, whereas he gets special leave for sick kids). She's better today and has gone off to MILs no probs.
We're going to a family firework display on Saturday. Don't know how good an idea it is, but at least we can leave if it's too much for her.
Just about to upload a new avatar of Imogen in her Halloween outfit. It was passed on by friends. I wouldn't spend money on something like that, but she did look cute! What you can't see is that I couldn't do the poppers up on the back because she's too big for it. It's 9-12mths and she's just 10mths :eek:MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -
Hi all, just managed to get online for a quick post.
Jack is much better now, he did get really ill and I took him back to the docs, saw a different one at 6pm and he said if it wasn't for the fact he was still drinking he would have admitted him to hospital. He put Jack on antibiotics and within two days we saw an improvement, but its not really been until yesterday the muck and gunk has cleared from his lungs. It was horrible but we are over it now. However because he was getting lots of cuddles in the night to calm him and his breathing down, he got used to it and we have had several bad nights over this week.
We started controlled crying last night and plan to stick it out for as long as we need too. Last night wasn't too bad but I;ll go into more detail later as we are about to go out and we are already late, but i'm waiting for DH to get his bum in gear!0 -
Hey Bay, glad to hear little Jack's over the worst of it. Hope you can be strong tonight!
Imogen is now faster than greased lightening with her crawling and wants to be on her feet walking all the time. We've bought her first pair of shoes this morning from the local Clarks outlet store. They measured her feet and had just one pair in her size (3F) but they are gorgeous. Hopefully that will encourage her to be on her feet. She's had them on for a few mins after lunch and seemed to be picking her feet up much better when wearing them. I'm not a massive fan of babies wearing shoes all the time, so we'll ration when she has them on. Best of all, they only cost £5!:money:

Glad to hear that Jack is feeling better now.
Charlotte is doing really well on pureed foods. She's tried all sorts of dishes and seems to like most things apart from spiced stuff.
We went shopping today and an old man said hello to her. She waved her arms and legs frantically and screamed really loud in a happy way. No idea why she did that, but the man was chuffed and said nobody had been that excited to see him for years :rotfl:Here I go again on my own....0 -
Becles, Charlotte seems to be doing really well, I'm always really interested to see how people who had babies at the same time as me are going on. Natasha is 4 days younger than Charlotte, so basically I can just copy everything that you do...
:rotfl:
Tash will eat most pureed fruit and veg, although we've not moved on to anything more adventurous yet. I'm a bit stuck for ideas really, and nervous of giving her the wrong things. I might go and scour the internet for recipes. I have a freezer full of pureed carrot, swede, brocolli, cauliflower, pear, apple, sweet potato, pumpkin, butternut squash and spinach (which, sadly, is one of her favourites....oh the nappies....)."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -

Hi Snaggles,
I'm weaning my DD Katie (6.5 months) and I've found Annabel Karmel to be very good with ideas - first baby don't have a clue.
Katie's favourite is Apricot, Apple and Pear with vanilla or cinnamon.
I had a go with Baby Led Weaning tonight, she sat in her high chair and I put some peas, a couple of slices of carrots and swede on her tray, she had great fun picking them up and putting in her mouth. It was the chicken that impressed me though, never had it before and gummed it down no problem!
I've not tried her on Spinach it's on the shopping list for next week.
Apparently butternut squash and pear make a good combo.

I was thinking of incorporating elements of baby led weaning when Alex starts on solids (he's only 11 weeks, so not yet!). I like the idea of letting him nibble on stuff while we are eating, but am not sure how that will work in reality. Anyway, he loves watching his big brother eat stuff, so am hoping he'll be a good eater (certainly good with his milk at the moment LOL

I hope I'm doing it right then  :rotfl:
I just puree anything I cook for us that can be pureed, like casseroles, meat and veg dinners - that kind of thing. I puree a few meals from one dish and freeze them, so she has something out the freezer on days like yesterday when we had battered cod and chips as I couldn't puree that!
Charlottes favourite is beef in ale casserole and veg. She likes that one so much, that last time we had it she was sitting on her Dad's knee dipping her hand in his gravy and licking it off :rotfl:
She also loves sausage casserole, chicken in a mushroom sauce with pasta, and shepherds pie. Here I go again on my own....0
