Yikes, I've had a few of those this time - soooo painful! Glad it's cleared now.
I'm debating whether or not to wean Natasha - she's 5 months old on Tuesday, and I really did intend to wait till 6 months, but she is dying to eat what we are eating, to the point where I'm feeling cruel eating in front of her! We are going on holiday in a fortnight and I suppose it would be easier if she was still just on milk, but I'm not sure if I'm just being mean??"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Currently on day 3 of DS wearing an amber teething necklace. He certainly seems to be drooling less, and I haven't needed to give him as much meds - just teething gel and powders.
Fingers crossed it continues to help! The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -
Hey Snaggles
Follow your instincts when it comes to weaning. She's way past the 17 weeks minimum recommended date. If you're only just starting then weaning on hols shouldn't be too much of a problem as you may only be giving small amounts and not necessarily at every feed. We weaned Imogen at 17 weeks as she was only 45oz of hungry baby milk a day  and had been reaching for stuff from out plates for weeks. This meant we had to prepare food when we went away, but we were about 6 weeks into it by then. We just bought some veg and a masher and mashed stuff up, then supplemented this with some jars we bought. She didn't spend long on baby rice as she was so desperate for different tastes. HTH
J's other Half - what's an amber teething necklace and why would you wear one? (Am I being really stupid?!)MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -
I thought the same Lu T and googled it. There was one that came up on ebay (I'd put a link but not sure it's allowed). Looks very interesting, now I'm tempted to get one for Izzy! :rotfl:

Hi Snaggles,
Does she seem any hungrier or could it be curiosity? Try just giving her a taste of a bit of fruit, I started doing this with my DD from about 5 months which she seemed happy with.
I started weaning my DD today (she's 6 months just) as she had started shouting for more when being given tastes. So she had carrot puree at lunchtime, she even opened her mouth properly a few times for the spoon. I think I gave her a bit too much though as she then wouldn't finish her bf.
Feeling a bit wistful about this as I have loved having her so dependant on me, and unless miracles can happen twice she will be my only one so I am cherishing every single feed.

Lu T and Purplepatch, yep I will keep you updated.
I ordered it off ebay in a fit of desperation as DS was so unhappy. On Thursday I even had to give him calpol in order to have him drink his bottles. The necklace went on him on the lunchtime Thursday, and I didn't see much difference that day. Howevever, yesterday and today he's been much much happier - and drooling less than he has in months. We haven't had to give him anything stronger than teething gel or powders so far...
Apparently amber is widely used in mainland Europe to help teething babies. The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -

Oh, that's so lovely.....I feel a bit like that too, I don't know how I'll cope when I have to stop feeding altogether, knowing I will never do it again."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Go with your instincts Snaggles. I was going to wait with Charlotte but she seemed ready so I started a couple of weeks ago. At the moment she's having the usual milk feeds, then about a tablespoon of baby breakfast cereal on a morning, and a tablespoon of either sweet or savoury puree at tea time.
She was on my knee while I was eating my tea last night and she dipped her hand into my chicken schezwan. She licked her fingers and got a shock with that sauce as it's got chilli in it, but then she wanted moreHere I go again on my own....0 -
I've had a quick look at amber necklaces and there seems to be lots of info about them helping. J's other half - aren't you worried about him pulling at it/choking?
