  • Just tried to renew photocard driving licence on-line but wouldn't let me because apparently my passport is over 5 years old even though I only renewed it in 2011. Anyone else had similar problems?

A few months ago I realised that I cannot find (lost?) my photocard driving license. I have not done anything about it. If I was stopped by the police for any reason, I would then look in my wallet and say OMG it seems to be missing (it is not something that you check for everyday). Obviously I can prove my id by other means. I even have a photocard (Freedom Pass). I am sure the police could verify that I should have a valid license.

If they have to be renewed every 10 years and expire at the age of 70, I will 64 next month. Will I only get 6 years for my money?

What would the consequences be of me not being able to provide the driving license on the basis it has been lost (I am sure not stolen as I would miss my credit cards!).
Thank you for reading this message.

I don't think you have to pay for the renewal at seventy.

  • grrr just messed up my on line application by forgetting to put my middle name because I was rushing! apparently if you do this when you go back in 30 minutes you just click on reregister.

Not doing mine as I've hardly driven in the last 10 years, & due to ill health I don't drive any more.

It is, strictly speaking, an offence not to surrender the out of date licence whether you drive or not. Whether you'd actually be prosecuted for it though, your guess is as good as mine. If you want to comply with the letter of the law but don't want to spend the £20 you can always surrender it and not renew it. But then you won;t have a licence, and you'd have to get a new one before you could drive again.
  • Got my paper licence 77
still got many to years to runs

and YES they are still legal

I did check about changing it for a plastic jobbie when DVLC ran their advertising suggestions to do so; then I saw the cost

I thought bu##er it; if they want me to change it, make it easy and cheap, after all as is I'm all right, Jack. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D
  • Glad I came across this thread. Moving out my current place next month, and points on licence due to expire March this year. Saves me £20!
