Spacesaver wheels and lazy people!

Space savers shouldn't be fitted onto the front wheels, even temporarily.
Trying to steer round a bend, or brake heavily, when you've got vastly different grip levels at the front is a recipe for disaster. And that's even if you stick below the manufactuers recommended speed rating:(0 -

You shouldn't be driving in a manner where you would need to brake heavily, especially when a space-saver is fitted to your car. I have never had any major issues with steering when a space-saver is on the front wheels of a car.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Best solution would be for "normal" cars like the Punto to come with a proper bloody spare rather than a useless 50mph doughnut that you can only do 30 miles on anyway.
It's ok for the sports car crowd that have massive tyres, or different sizes front/back, and generally don't drive that much anyway but whoever came up with the idea of putting them on normal cars should be shot.
Personally I prefer a 12V foot pump and a can of tyre weld. Assuming the puncture is of the type tyre weld can deal with, the end result is much safer.0 -

I have never bought a car where a full-size spare is not at least an option, and I don't intend to start unless I am forced to by pernickety laws.
The Focus was the first car I've bought with a space saver, and the first thing I did with it was buy a steel wheel for a fiver and replace the two front tyres, keeping the better of the two (with 4mm of tread) as the spare.
A slightly-inferior Pirelli P7 is better than a space saver any day of the week. The irony was that because the space saver was brand-new, it actually paid for one of the Toyo tyres that took the P7s place on the front wheelWhy anyone would pay £60 for a space saver tyre is beyond me, but I took it gladly lol.

Full size spare for a Citroen 2CV?0 -
Just put a knife through the tyre, then she'll have to get it changed.
Space savers are the worlds stupidest invention anyway. Imagine going on holiday, perhaps to france. Car is packed full, not an inch of space, then you suddenly get a flat.
Take everything out, remove space saver, swap wheels over... Go to put the full size wheel back in. Except it won't fit properly and you have a few inches less space and can no longer fit stuff in.
Now what?0 -
I agree they are an accountants wet dream and have no place on any car. They also have had horrific knock on effects. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/2010/04/02/woman-killed-after-tyre-explodes-inside-sports-car-86908-22157435/0
