Could somebody help me please ? regretably I left my reading glasses at work and am having just a bit of trouble working my way through the T + Cs even with the assistance of the Microsoft magnifier. (I'm waiting fot Specsave to do a BOGOF).
After the a/c. is opened, am I correct in assuming that future deposits are nade by S.O. ? (I'm allergic to electronic transfers). I currently use Yorkshire which allows deposits by debit card, my payments are ad hoc because I never know how much cash I have to "put away".
Withdrawls are to a nominated a/c. after three working days ? Again Yorks offer an A.T.M. card for immediate access. I realise of course that these extra facilities are paid for by the reduced interest rate which they offer.
Finally, they state that this a/c. may be wthdrawn at any time, in that event I wonder if they would permit any further deposits from existing a/c. holders ?0 -
One more reason why you need an account with a cheque book.
:rotfl:
Wonder how many people (like me) keep an account running for situations like this?
I think they have done a U-turn on cheques being abolished. They are still available to order online at Lloyds TSB.
It's only the guarantee scheme that has gone, but to be honest I've only even done a guaranteed cheque once in my life, after all you have a debit card which is more or less accepted everywhere.0 -

That only exists when the account is a fixed rate. With instant access you can carry on putting money in as long as you wish, once opened. It just means that after they close the account, only those who applied beforehand can carry on using it.
I think you will only be able to use transfers via the bank, but it should be in the terms and conditions. Not read them, can't open an account though i would like to.Not got a lot of cah to play with now, after transferring it in and out of accounts to better rates, and fixing some!!0 -
Well I just opened the account with a pound, to lock in the fixed rate, will use it later on if rates do not go any higher.0

So does mine, but like Stompa I'm sure that wasn't the one displayed at the end of the application process. I hope your application doesn't get lost in the labyrinthine tunnels of Derbyshire BS admin department!
Cheers both of you.

The account has a "competitive variable rate" of 1%. Only the bonus is fixed.

Blimey, that was quick. Just received my letter from the Derbyshire, and have successfully logged in to my account. It all seems to be up and running.
There was a slight oddity in that after entering my 'Activation Key' it unexpectedly threw me back to the home page, but a subsequent login attempt worked fine.
Hmmm, it also seems to be a fairly buggy web interface. Clicking on 'Customer homepage' gave me 'The page cannot be found'. I also had something like 'End of menu 24' appearing on screen at some points, which looks like some sort of debugging info for the developer.
The pick the nth character of your memorable info dropdowns are also a bit unusual in that they offer both upper and lower case characters, along with some fairly unusual characters like space.Stompa0 -
I remembered to bring my glasses home with me today so I'm up and running. By a strange coincidence, I received a letter from Derbyshire today advising me that a bond which I hold with them is due to mature on the 31st of August. The follow on rate is 3.05% gross in my case. I only kept a couple of bob in it in order that if they were to offer anything decent, then I probably wouldn't have had to jump through the hoops and rings of i.d. requirements. What a pity I can't transfer directly on the maturity date but have to wait for them to send me a cheque in order that I can send them one back.0

You could always ask them nicely, once your new account is up and running.I rang the AA for a similar favour last month and they were very helpful.Maybe they can't but worth a try.0

States could take up to 15 days before I receive opening of account details. I have been a Nationwide customer for over 30 years so would have expected quicker opening. I bet they don't do faster payments for payments out!!!

If you choose the option for them to send you the pre-filled application instead (rather than you printing and sending) then you can return in the pre-paid envelope that they supply you with.
The 15 days seems to be a maximum time and opening seems a lot quicker based on earlier reports in this thread.I came, I saw, I melted0
