I have a further irritation. I'm an existing customer, applied online via logging in as normal, it helpfully filled in nearly all the application info from their existing records of me ... then asked me to send 2 items of identification!

Possible reason is that the ID they hold on you is so old that it no longer is "valid" under the current ID requirements if you have had accounts with them going back for many years.
You've seen the threads on MSE about how "I have had an account with X for 25 years and now I want to withdraw some money and they need to see ID".....

Can some kind person please confirm the address the form is to be sent to? I think it's this one (without the specifics) but I'm not sure. I know I'm dumb but you'd think they'd put it on the form...

    I'm pretty sure it's:

    Online Savings Applications
Derbyshire Building Society - Savings & Investments Team
    PO Box 29216
    Dunfermline
    KY12 2BZ

My form had an address at the bottom of page 1 of Derbyshire Building Society, Duffield Hall, Duffield, Derby, DE56 1AG.

It is also the adress shown here

So I sent it to that address.

FWIW the address shown on screen at the end of the application process was definitely the Dunfermline one.

    Thanks

I had a problem at the end of the application process printing the form, it showed a printer module error or something so I then chose the option for them to send me one. Then the form mysteriously printed!

So quite likely I missed that Dunfermline address. Sure mine will get processed all the same.

So does mine, but like Stompa I'm sure that wasn't the one displayed at the end of the application process. I hope your application doesn't get lost in the labyrinthine tunnels of Derbyshire BS admin department!

    Cheers both of you.

send to them with your cheque (has to be a cheque) for the opening balance ... return with a cheque for the opening balance.

One more reason why you need an account with a cheque book.
    :rotfl:
Wonder how many people (like me) keep an account running for situations like this?

I have seen accounts in the past where a counter cheque drawn by ones bank / building society on a deposit account was acceptable provided that evidence is provided that the cheque has been drawn from an account in your name. Some kind of certificate? Perhaps worth asking Derbyshire if that option exists.
