    2017 Grocery challenge £110.00 per week/ £5720 a year

  • Evening all

smileyt I am glad that your dog is ok. I remember how fond we were of the dog we had as children, a real member of the family she was.

Had a great start to the day. Looked for the vouchers I received from work for my long service award and found some vouchers I had for my birthday last December with £40 of birthday money tucked into the back that I had forgotten about :j. I cannot believe I forgot about that much money. I know at the beginning of the year I said that I was not going to buy any clothes for a year but I decided that this did not count and spent it on some much needed new winter pjs with a long cardigan as well that I can sleep in for extra warmth or use as a dressing gown if it is not too cold.

Came home from grocery shopping and was visited by a work colleague who dropped off 11lb of damsons for me :T.

Nulabula thanks for the information from the sparks people, I have scanned though it and will have a proper read over the weekend.

Went back to the GP on Wed for the rest of my blood results after my scare last week. I am, so glad that I went and did not just take the advice of the GP I saw last week. If you remember he dismissed me with a loose weigh and not so much as a come back in 3 months and we will check you blood pressure again . The GP I saw this week was very thorough, found several things wrong, has arranged for a 24hr blood pressure monitoring test and has referred me to a cardiologist. OH is now treating me as if I am made of glass.

Took DD 2 to the orthopaedic hospital to day and have been taught how to carry out electrical stimulation therapy on her shoulder to try to stop the shoulder from partially dislocating and hopefully to reposition the shoulder as they can not operate on it again. Now how to persuade a 15yr old to do this twice a day everyday for 3 months?

Got an extra shift tomorrow morning/early afternoon and then plan on going to the lottie to harvest some more produce and do some more weeding. OH is also coming apple foraging with me (on account of me being a bit on the short side). Will also need to firm up the runner bean supports in view of the potential bad weather this weekend.

Hope everyone has a good weekend and the stormy weather is no too bad.

    Mrs VP

Sorry have just realised how much I have rambled on :o
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

Mrs VP - you may be surprised by your daughter. At a similar age I was given exercises to do 4 times a day for the rest of my life. I did them. Luckily I no longer need to, but I did do them for years as it became a habit. If it makes life easier, she probably will.

Smileyt - phew! That's a relief. I know exactly how you felt as my last dog had the same thing. My vet gave me a tip - if the lump doesn't feel attached to the underlying muscle then it's probably nothing to worry about. My dog developed several lumps over her long life and I got her checked each time but at least I could do my own check as well and approach the visit to the vet in a calmer frame of mind. The lumps had nothing to do with why she eventually died.

Moved some shelving/staging into the greenhouse along with some plants today and tomorrow will tackle all the bits and pieces that were scattered around the garden to give me greenhouse building space. Need to get it all put away before the late weekend winds.

I finally tracked down some decently priced voile panels today and bought one to make cafe nets with so the bottom half of my front windows - double glazed units that look like sash windows - will be completely covered but the top half left clear to let in light. In this case brand new was better value than cs. Saw a similar arrangement in a neighbour's house and it worked very well. Yet more sewing :rotfl:

Re hurricanes - remember back in the 80's when a weatherman said we didn't get them here and what happened next? Well on the BBC website today there was a very similar comment - oo er  Good luck to all in the west/north.

Aldi have got cucumbers on special offer for 39p and they are also selling pure sea salt 500g for 85p so I have been busy making bread and butter pickles. Yum Yum. The first batch I tried, I followed a recipe which suggested using the fine slicing disc on a food processor but that was far too thin. I sliced them by hand this time and they kept their crunch and their colour. Think I will have to make another batch - this lot won't last long.

BTW it's the coarse sea salt that hasn't got any additives - the fine sea salt has got an anti caking agent which I am trying to avoid
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

You're asolutely right!! I did get the decimal point wrong- I meant £47 obviously! I occasionally have problems when I use a calculator but rarely old fashioned pen & paper. Although always best at languages a degree of dyscalculia ( where I invert numbers visually) can cause dramatic miscalculations at times.! I once informed a group that my friend was ill with a temperature of 110!! It was of course 101 F- Thank you for pointing that out. We now have about 122 lbs of onions and like you I think it has been a very suceessful crop for the square footage used.

Glad you found my rather pernickety way of dealing with poach pods useful. I've a collection of silicone bakeware as well. Only thing is the latter need to stand on metal trays in the oven but they are useful for easy turning out of baking.

We were meant to be going on the first of our days heritage days out yesterday- free admission -never got there . OH took one look at the weather.. raining ++ and another look at the cat who was looking very sorry for herself with an eye infection. He made an appointment to see our regular vet fully expecting not to bring her back with us.

He agreed with the diagnosis last week's vet gave but actually suggested giving her a steroid injection so I wouldn't have to give her twice daily medication- said it would be too stressful for us both so she can have these shots every 2-3 weeks for a while until the mesothelioma she's got does eventually get so bad she has to have the final injection. He also gave us some eyedrops.- interesting it has to be administered in the upper lid in a cat instead of the lower lid in a human. She's got us both dancing attendance on her, being ultra fussy with food , where she wants to eat it etc etc etc Anyway she's got a bit of her fight back.

OH told me that Henry Hoover arrived last night on his eco duties of preventing cat food waste and was tucking into his rations. Jennicat apparently came out of the kitchen door and ran straight over to Henry spitting at him - decided she wanted the food after all!! Henry apparently fled but was back on hoover duty this morning. He's a gentle giant, twice our cat's size but petrified of her.

I made her stay indoors until he'd finished 'hoovering' and she was back up on her wheelie bin when I left for my walk. So for a little while we're having a bit of normality ever conscious that it could just be a final rallying before the end. So glad OH is having a little extra time and we're making the most of it.

Hoping to have a few hours out tomorrow - it is our anniversary week after all - much depends on weather as far as OH is concerned but I just say it's not the weather it's wearing the right kit!... Walkers are mad and go out in just about any weather. Hope we get to have a change of scene tomorow anyway. Goodnight folks
