I've found a lump on my dog :( We are going to the vet's this afternoon and I am trying not to panic or get upset, but all my sense, rationality and sense of persepective goes out of the window where my dogs are concerned if they're ill. This week is our 12th anniversary; I brought her home from the rescue shelter as a four-month old pup twelve years ago.

Oh dear me but dont worry too much a lot of dogs of all ages get lumps and bumps, it could be a cyst which are normally no problem to them......get it checked out when you get an hour to spare..........................alot of lumps are just cysts, so keep your chin up and let us know how you get on please.

But my little chihuahua rosie had a lump come on her nipple 3 yrs ago and vet said they thought it was breast cancer we had it removed and it was cancerous, , she now has another lump on different nipple vet said at 16 yrs old they dont want to operate, she is in no pain so we will just keep an eye on it..........................she eats well and still go to the beach everyday without any problems , so try not not worry yourself .............take everyday as it comes and carry on enjoying your pet as usual..........take care...:)

I have my fingers crossed for you and your dog Smileyt - hope it turns out to be something harmless. x
Nulabula thanks for the link. It was interesting reading. I have lost 9lb in the last couple of months so have made a start and started walking to as well as from work. Thats two 20min walks a day. I really do not think it is my thyroid so think weight loss and exercise is the way to go.
You're welcome Mrs VP - and yay for you losing 9lb! :j:T I know from my efforts to lose weight that's not the easiest thing in the world, especially when you hang out here and read all the lovely recipes everyone's making! And the exercise you're getting is fantastic! I've been using Spark People (a free website) to help me lose weight and I noticed this section on blood pressure just in case it's any use to you. Hope you get good news next time you go the doc. Take good care of yourself hon.

I've used Lakeland Poach pods for a few years now, having previously owned a metal poacher pan. I bought the poach pods at a local DIY/kitchen type shop of all places . I boil the kettle first and pour the water into a pan, quickly spray a squirt of a 1 calorie oil into the pod, then break the egg into a separate cup first before pouring into the greased pod.

I then place the pod carefully into the pan, taking care that the pod is as still as possible in the water before turning the gas ring on under it. Putting a lid on the saucepan I bring the pan back to a low boil on a medium heat. It takes a couple of minutes or so to poach the egg to my taste and I've never found it a problem to lift the pod from the pan By hand.

Sounds like a lot of clat I know but I do find it works well enough. It really depends on how much of a hurry you're in before breakfast or whatever - but then I'm retired so I guess I take everything at a steadier speed these days??:rotfl:
I was smiling at your cat stories Rosanna, hope your poor sick one is comforable and your OH is adjusting to the sad situation. Henry Hoover - that made me laugh! :rotfl:

Thanks a mill for the poach pod info Rosanna - I put them to the test again yesterday and was really pleased. They're a lot less messy and no egg white gets wasted so they will get regular use! And as for taking things at a steady speed, I think you're so right - I prefer to do that too!

Hope everyone is doing ok and sending hugs to anyone who isn't or who would like one anyway! All's ok here except that being back on MSE is doing Bad Things to my weight loss. <need a slipped halo smiley here!> I somehow came across a recipe for Weetabix Loaf here and of course I had to make it. Baking is bad news when you live alone as you end up scoffing everything yourself! :D I know I could have frozen some but that just didn't happen!

I just posted on the Preparing for Winter thread that I read we are set for another harsh winter and could have snow as early as October! I know these experts aren't necessarily to be believed but we've had such a bad summer here that it wouldn't shock me. I've just put in a big bulk order at the food co-op so I know at least I won't starve even if I'm snowed in till next Spring! ;)

Have a great day everyone! :)
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

    Hello everyone xxx

I've spent the last two days covered in flour, royal icing and food colouring. My friend is getting married tomorrow and somehow I have found myself making over 100 rabbit shaped biscuits as the wedding favours. I spent yesterday baking them all and giving them a coat of royal icing. I got to bed at Midnight and am shattered today. Today I've piped on all the details and have cramp in my right hand and a pain between my shoulders that I can't shift.
Next wedding I'm keeping my mouth shut and knitting them a tea cosy :rotfl:
So any other plans have gone out of the window. My sloe schnapps experient has changed colour, so I'm going to leave it in the cupboard for a year and see what happens.
Hopefully I'll manage to fit in a shopping trip tomorrow morning and will get some more tomatoes for the stash in the cupboard under the stairs.
Now I'd better change out of my fetching pink gingham pjs and anchor butter apron and see if I can shift the purple food colouring off my hands. I look like I have a strange disease and don't want to put everyone off eating the biscuits.

Smileyt will be thinking of you hunny, I know your dogs are precious too you, lets hope its a cyst xxx

I am very proud to say I went to Mr T for my craft mag (full of free stuff) and didnt spend a single extra penny - we are officially stocked up :j Pea soup heading for sc, cooked chicken ready to divide and freeze. Then swop pea soup for chicken carcass in sc and make soup. Going to get everything done today so I can either have tomorrow for crafting or making the buffet if I am needed. Hoping for the crafting day but buffet will be fun I guess.

My O/S spirit is in full swing, lots of green tomatoes ready to chutney and jams set in larder ready.

    Saving every single penny.

  • Love and licks to all poorly doggies. Hopefully everything will be OK Smileyt.
I was in Wilkinsons yesterday to buy some Dove soap (the only one that doesn't make me old wrinkly skin too old and wrinkly) and one tablet of soap was 50p but they had a special offer for two tablets of soap, down from £1.29 to £1.27 !!!
Then to Savers, their Dove soap was cheaper at 39p but I could have bought 4 for £1.99 !!
Thank goodness I can add up. I wonder how many thought they were getting a better deal with the multi packs?
    Normal people worry me.

Will have fingers crossed for you that its benign, although I can empathise with you being in panic mode.:o

I had senior dog to vet last month with a large lump on the back of her head - it was a sebaesteous cyst and no treatment necessary as self resolving. Senior cat has large tumour on her head that they have tried lots of different treatments on over the last three month but nothing has been successful. She is 15 years young so surgery isn't possible but she is happy, eating & drinking plenty and apart from the big lump, she is perfectly healthy.

C****mas is looming - must get a move on to start HM presents :)

Kittie - when is a good time to plant shallots? I have totally forgotten... I grew some a few years back and they were really successful and we got lots and lots of them :)

Smileyt - hugs for you and your dog. Both my dogs have lumps, the older one (12) has one on her tummy, the younger one (7) has one on her chest. My last dog had one on her side. All 3 are/ were nothing to worry about and are the fatty lumps common in dogs. Fingers crossed for you that your dog is the same.
Kittie - thanks for the warning about Monday's forecast.

Thank you so much to everyone who commented on my dog's lump - thankfully it is a benign fatty lump. I spent the whole day with that sick, anxious feeling in my stomach but the vet stuck a needle in Tessy's lump, checked on a microscope slide and said it was a fatty lump. To say I am relieved is an understatement! Once outside the vet's surgery I shed a few tears of relief. I know that our dogs don't live forever but I'm hoping to have her for a few more years yet.

We have been home about half an hour and I am going to take the dogs out now. Tess was fairly stressed when we got back from the vet's so I thought it would be best for her to have some chill out time before we pottered off out.
