I forget how much I paid for it or where I got now ! But I got it when I got the hens, then read up on it. You can sprinkle it into bedding for all pets and you can mix a teasp into their food once every 6 weeeks or something like that for worming. And its harmless to humans as it's just silica. Here -

All I can say is no coment..ha ha..:Dcant remember what I had for tea tonight, so no chance going back near 40 yr...
Well one thing that did come to my mind when I went to bed last night(thats when I do my thinking)........my son was born in Dec 24 1975, we hadnt got a penny most of us was hard up and happy back then:D.....I didnt have a cot for the babe so my mother said well its either he sleeps in his pram or I will go upstairs and empty one of my drawers to sleep him in, so that was it he slept in a deep draw until I went to the local sale ground and bidded for a second hand wooden cot, cant remember how much we paid for it but spect it was peanuts..................I dont know if you did this but I use to get secondhand burco boilers at the sale ground auctions to boil the nappies in, oh wernt they the days when we use to boil in fairy snow ..........then put them in the bath to rinse then get them on the mangle:eek: no fabric softner back then .........................then on the line to dry smelling so clean and sparkling white..............those times were bloody hard indeed ................... phew me ive come over all hot and sweaty just going back to 75......I got myself a secondhand twin tub washing machine and felt so well off with it............how the hell did we get through it all ............0 -
My boys were born in the 60s. Most of their clothes came from the Birmingham Rag Market (second hand), I used terry nappies that were sluiced down the loo, soaked in Napisan, boiled and line dried. They both slept in wooden drawers from the chest.
Now married with families of their own (and all mod cons) they don't seem to have come to any harm! Not that I'd want to go back to those days though, it was certainly a struggle.Normal people worry me.0 -
Shergar, that took me back I had Italian friends who saved and saved so they could go back home every 3 years, by boat train I seem to remember. their babies always slept in drawers - draught free and quite safe for a tiny one! So when Dd was pregnant I teased her OH for ages that Dgs would have to sleep in a drawer unless he got his a** into gear and put the cot together.
We use fleece blankets in his cot here and at home as they let wet run away from the body and are soft and warm but quick to dry.The entire bill for bedding for 2 cots was less than a tenner and just needs replacing after 18 months
Went to Mr T today and they had some 2 kg chickens for £2.50 :T I don't know if its going to be a regular thing, but they were just wrapped round and round in clingfilm, no tray or anything? Some prices in there are really silly - 200gm own brand coffee £1.48 100gms £1.38 - not on offer so why??Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
Rosanna - think you might have got your decimal point in the wrong place re your onions
£470 for 96lbs = £4-90 per pound:eek: Still a very good yield - I grew overwintered onions from sets last year, harvested this year and will definitely be doing the same again as they were a really successful crop.
Also on a gardening note - I have finished building my greenhouse :j:j:j It's a lean-to - double polycarbonate glazed - so I should be able to keep it frost-free fairly easily/cheaply. Looking forward to eating the hardier winter onions, lettuces etc and safely overwintering my herb pots and strawberry runners without crowding out the house windowsills. I'll be able to get an early start with next spring's seeds as well. That's if my construction efforts survive the weather - looks like I'll find out this weekend if the forecast for Sunday is right.
I've found a way to use up my courgette surplus - as well as giving some away I'm now feeding them to the dog mixed with value instant gravy - she loves it :T Obviously I won't be serving this more than once or twice per week, but it does mean I can open freeze chunks then steam and add gravy later - it will save me a bit without compromising her nutrition"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Shegar I had my first son in 1974 and bought a little tabletop washer for most of the washing but I boiled nappies in a pan and rinsed them in the huge pot sink (it was one of those long shallow ones) I had to wring everything by hand and hang it outside to drip even in winter then bring it in to finish drying. About 18 months later we moved and my stepfather bought us an old Ada wringer machine from the auction rooms,I felt rich.
A few years later we bought a Bendix front loader and I sat watching it for days every time I put washing in it.0 -
I've found a lump on my dog
We are going to the vet's this afternoon and I am trying not to panic or get upset, but all my sense, rationality and sense of persepective goes out of the window where my dogs are concerned if they're ill. This week is our 12th anniversary; I brought her home from the rescue shelter as a four-month old pup twelve years ago.

The lump on my dog wasn't anything! (It was on his chest, somewhere between his legs) Try not to panic. I'm going to be worrying about you all day now.0 -

Sorry to hear that smileyt, try to stay positive if you can. A lump on one of my old dogs also turned out to be benign, the vet told me a lot of them are.
