Caught with no insurance

No insurance - it would have been obvious, because the insurance company would have notified the OP.
No MOT
Previous convictions for speeding in the most crucial areas - the 30MPH limit.
Oh dear!
There is a positive side to all of this, the OP could get fitter by walking, or take buses and trains and see more of the countryside.0 -
Arrange for a local garage to MOT the car and pay them to pick it up on a flat bed trailer truck or car trailer from the pound (you'll have to be there too of course). When it is MOT'd, pay the garage to deliver it wherever you will keep it while SORN'd. If the garage is not far from the pound/your house it may not be that expensive.....just ask them.
Then you will have breathing space to decide your next move.
Perhaps your dad can add you to his own policy as a second driver and you can just borrow his car now and again as required.
If you want to have your own car/policy then your no claims that you've built up still counts for something so you wont have to pay what new drivers do. Try different models of car to see if that makes a big diference.
Best wishes.''apply within''0 -
A fully comp driver can only drive another vehicle they dont own IF the vehicle they are going to drive is already covered on an insurance policy. If its not on any insurance policy then who ever picks it up is also un insured.
There is a common misconception that Driving Other Cars cover goes together with fully comp cover. This is not the case. Insurers that provide DOC cover often provide it on all policies, not just fully comp, and many fully comp policies do not include DOC at all.
AFAIK (I may be wrong here) some policies that offer DOC cover DO allow you to drive a vehicle that is not covered by its own policy. However, with the new rules that uninsured cars must be SORNed, an uninsured car would also be untaxed, so could not be used on the road at all.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon

The OP hasn't mentioned what notification she received from the insurance company to say they had cancelled the policy. Perhaps she could clarify that point? If they have not notified her correctly then she should have grounds for a complaint."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

Back to the OP: take your certificate to a solicitor if you can be sure the insurance company will not pull any rabbits out of the hat with regards to proof of postage letters cancelling the policy, the magistrates will find you guilty because they do not have to follow any Law, however upon appeal to a real judges, they do have to follow the Law and the certificate will be judged to be in force or not.
If this was not the case, Insurance companies would be able to cancel anyone's insurance at the drop of a hat or first sign of a claim, this was covered by the courts a long time ago hence why you have a bonded signed contract of underwriting.
What you did was to default upon a credit agreement, this may invalidate the contract but there has to be a notification of termination served upon you, if it was not then the certificate is usually still valid until so.
So if YOU have the certificate and have NOT been served with documents requesting that it be returned or destroyed or that it is revoked then you may still be insured.
The police have had many a spanking in court over just this issue.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Whilst I dispise people that knowingly drive uninsured, I think the OP has been given a very hard time by some of the posters in here.
God forbid anyone on here ever makes a mistake and needs help! This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -
All I can say is good. You speed in 30 zones (repeatedly), and you drive without insurance or MOT.
You're exactly the type of person I want the police to be actively taking off the road and throwing the book at.
As a young driver getting stung for thousands past 2 years iv been driving i feel we are effectivly covering most of the cost of drivers that think they can cheat the law and are above it. Let me tell you i agree 100% with the above post and i hope they do make an example of you.Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.

Not at one point has the OP given me the impression that she's 'above the law' as you put it.
As a young male driver (22) with a high performance car I know the pains of high premiums. It's more our age bracket being high risk than other drivers having no insurance IMO that makes the premiums so high. This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0
