That is an insurance policy which provides no cover for releasing impounded vehicles, it is not the same issue as the police dictating that you can not use one that does not have that exclusion.
Every one I've had has that exclusion. And I've had a few.

of share holders of lloyds of London.
The automatic fines for keeping an inured vehicle off the road are just the latest in the line of such money making protection rackets, this country is descending in to a corrupt third world despot dictatorship run on behalf of a few at the expense of the other 99.999%

Please stop talking out of your rear end. Lloyds of London does not even have "shareholders" for a start.

thanks - will ask the pound, havent phoned them yet - was going to do so tomorrow as they told me they'd be doing the paperwork today so to leave it for a day or so.

Does anyone know re the post below if another fully comp with 3rd person on other cars can retrieve car then??

It depends. Many policies nowadays require the car that is going to be driven to be insured in its own right. Your policy was cancelled so therefore it isn't. I couldn't pick it up on my policy under the "driving another vehicle not owned by" extension.

I'd ban you from driving forever and probably lock you up for a few years as a deterrent to the other dimwits and abusers who flout the law without any due care towards those poor sods they come into contact with.

That is an insurance policy which provides no cover for releasing impounded vehicles, it is not the same issue as the police dictating that you can not use one that does not have that exclusion, if the police are doing this they are acting unlawfully, but then again, thats never stopped them before.

Not long after the vehicle seizures began, it came to light that abuses were occuring. In one instance a single motor trader had used his motor trade policy to recover over a dozen vehicles

I expect that some form of exclusion wording was agreed at some insurance industry forum as a means to prevent abuse of the system, because most insurers would insert it as a standard term in their policies.

Every policy I have had recently stated quite clearly that it could not be used to recover an impounded vehicle except the vehicle specified on the certificate.

If the certificate proved that the driver was actually insured at the time it was seized, the Police would probably accept it, because they no longer have a belief that it was uninsured at the time, and otherwise innocent motorists may have their vehicles crushed, with all the resulting legal problems.

A fully comp driver can only drive another vehicle they dont own IF the vehicle they are going to drive is already covered on an insurance policy. If its not on any insurance policy then who ever picks it up is also un insured.

I nearly took your word for it, but I just checked by going to confused.com.

I did a quote for a 36 year old woman, with 8 years NCB, no accidents, an office worker, with an SP30 and a IN10, and declared Yes to having insurance cancelled... £420. Hardly eye watering. Ok, so the OP has two SP30's, I didn't do an exact quote for her, but still...

But the OP is unemployed (which I've read is a higher risk) and had a fault claim (wrote her own car off) within the last 3 years.
