    Such a great thread!!
Sorry for silly question but does Ikea provide fitter or do they recommend you somebody locally?
Our nearest Ikea (Bristol) is 2 hrs drive away so I wonder if they send someone from Bristol or how it works?

They can send fitters, but it's always better if you find one in your area. I got a personal recommendation of one in my area that I intend to use when i buy the kitchen :)
  • Yes I would say IKEA are the best value for money kitchens around ! i have fitted a few of them . The only draw back to customers is fiters will charge a bit extra to fit as they come in flat pack ! Get your fiting quote in writing, your plunbing quote in writing everything must be in writing or Caveat temptor = let the buyer beware !

Got the quote from the Ikea for my kitchen - 950.00, very happy, perfect! (Yes, I have a really tiny kitchen :)
The installation of the kitchen - 1500.00 :eek:

Surely, a local fitter will be cheaper?

Absolutely a local fitter will be cheaper! Get some recommendations first though.

All company backed schemes are always more expensive than other options. They have to warrant them and administer them and some take a cut of the fit above that too.

I used the Ikea kichen designer and designed a kitchen that costs around £2000.. guess the fitting is gonna be really expensive!!! :( Want to get some quotes from local fitters, but haven't done it yet...

we just had one fitted - couple of things to do...

avoid black worktops - numerar I think its called - they constantly show watermarks on ours, we're hoping it subsides a bit, its the only thing we don't like.

The cabinets are easy to put together - if you can use a screwdriver and can reasd instructions offer to build them yourself for the fitter to then fit them - building the flat packs ourselves saved 20hrs of labour which the fitter was happy to do (besides most old houses need to cut the carcases to fit into out of line walls etc.

Be prepared to go back over and over - we did, about 6 times during the process of fitting (great if you like meatballs :D ) - take your time to get it right though - also if you can take the interest free credit - they fix you on 0% and even if you return goods etc you keep the amount on your 0%, we managed to change our cabinet fittings etc etc and we still have the same payments, same arrangements (we didnt need the finance as we'd planned for the kitchen to be done but if its 0% its 0%).

Our kitchen was £2,500 including oven, microwave, hob, extractor hood, stainless steel breakfast bar and Indisit dishwasher (the last part bought elsewhere).

We paid a total of £1,100 for fitting, including all electric, gas and kitchen itself...

We've just had the yellow/white kitchen put in - Used Ikea on the recommendation of Brother-in-law who is very sucessful builder/property developer. He swears by the quality and value.

Love ours - We went for oak wooden worktop - regretting that a little as it makes the room a little dark ( wish I'd gone for the beech which comes up nicer IMO).

Another vote for Ikea kitchens here!:)
We used the adel kitchen in off white with oak tops last time and currently have tidaholm units in boxes waiting to be installed in our new home. I have the Boholem (?) sink in my utility which is getting a lot of use as we are renovating the whole house and washing paint trays, plaster buckets etc in there. So far so good but it is early days! I was disappointed with the ceramic sink which we used in the adel kitchen which scratched although I was very careful with it.
My OH loves the easy assembly and thoughtful design that goes into all of their units and is quite happy to put them together.;)
    HTH :)
PS we have bought the Pragel worktops, any thoughts on those please?
