You probably use the oak veneer cover perfekt cover panels: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/10034448/

They bolt to the side of the carcass to cover it, rather than replace any part of it. You screw into the panel from inside the unit (screws provided with the panel), so on the outside there are no visible fixings.

Thats exactly what you do. We have the Tidaholm and the Perfekt Oak panels match fine. You will also find that the single drawer fronts are Perfekt Oak as well.

Kitchen DesignR........I think this thread is about praising the value for money not quality....considering you are generally paying considerably less than Homebase prices for Ikea and normally a bit less than a B&Q IT and qualitywise they are similar you can argue the value card when talking about Ikea.

I dont think anyone would argue they are anything like as good quality as a rigid carcasse german kitchen, or even nearly as good as the best UK made flatpacks for that matter. But for the price point, and for the choice and variety of unit size and wirework available at that price point, they are are hard to beat..

I am no more fooled than you by the 25 year carcasse warranty, and the lack of a service gap which makes fitting a pain in rooms which are anything other than straight and true and leaves you with pipework and wiring cut into the carcasse, unless you spec over depth tops....

They are far from perfect, or should that be perfekt! But at that price, nor are the competition.

Im considering fitting an Ikea kitchen shortly.. i have had quotes from wickes and b&q for nearly £3k... i can buy the same stuff from ikea for about £1k ..... is the quality really as bad as people make it out to be? I have quite a few things around the house from shelves to wardrobes and chest of draws from ikea and the built quality is great for the price!

    Bit confused.

Most people on here seem to be praising IKEA kitchens.

But the topic title is ikea kitchen quality - any good. And in their fitters opinion the answer is NO. :)

Surely the fitters dislike them as they are a pain to fit, not because of any failings in quality?

The appliance cupboards do have a service void and lets face it that's the one that needs it! The sink one has a 1/2 back to allow for pipes too... Mine wasn't a problem despite the fitters sulking before they started!

NO, once you get around the problems of no service void, sinks with no holes and have a van full of spares etc, theres not a problem within fitting.

Fitter A* (not naming him) complains mainly about the thin melamine (almost see through), paper thin backs and bad designs. (not a quality issue)

What he doesn't moan about is the good money they pay him to fit.

See i think his whining is more to the fact that the kitchen has not assembled its self.

Been speaking to my father and our old kitchen (+ 8 years old ) is an ikea kitchen and a kitchen hey just installed in a bungalo was an ikea kitchen and they both look great.

Im hoping that Ikea will do an offer soon.. i remember when my father purchased the last kitchen bits they did an offer that if you spend over £1k you get 20% off.

They had an offer of spend £1000 on kitchens and get a £100 gift card that finished end of May, so it may not be a while before they do another one.

Having said that all the branches seem to do different offers from time to time. Someone posted ,I think it was Leeds store, doing a voucher for 20% off valid during the England matches, but not sure of the details.
