Ikea kitchen quality - Any good?

Hi there, we're going to be having a new kitchen fitted in our new house, but have a limited budget (as most people do). We've been looking at a couple of options, but always come back to Ikea because of their style and storage solutions.
Has anyone got one, or do you know anyone who has one? and if so, what's the quality like? is it hard wearing? would you recommend it to anyone?
Thanks in advance

Can't help with Ikea I'm afraid.........I've looked at them on line along with others and got really confused.
Found one site that looks good and prices are right
www.kitchens-now.co.uk - don't know if anyones used them
I'm on limited budget and want to change ours so we have eye level oven -easier due to disability - and can't afford those in the £1000' plus area.I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

I've just fitted an Ikea kitchen into a new Extension. I am very pleased with the quality of the units. My fitter commented a number of time how well they were made etc. All hinges/soft-close mechanism's on the cupboards are Blum. I didn't purchase Ikea worktop though as they did not have the colour I was looking for and unless you go for their bespoke range, they only come in 2m lengths, no good for a long kitchen as no-one wants a straight join in the middle of the worktop. A couple of bits of advice:
- Ikea units go right back to the wall (i.e. there is no service cavity) so you either have to cut the pipes into the cupboards or run the services at ground level. This is apart from the obvious exception of the Sink units which are open backed with a steel brace.
- Ikea floor units are the full 600mm deep meaning that 600mm worktop will not give you an overhang. I used Breakfast bar and had it cut down to 620mm by the supplier.
- If I had the choice again, I would not have purchased an Ikea sink. Although it was cheap, it's layout just doesn't suit us (1.5 bowl) and TBH, it feels cheap.
For a 14 unit kitchen with integrated Whirlpool DW & White Knight Tumble Dryer, Whirlpool single oven, Induction hob & Cooker Hood, Bushboard Laminate worktop I paid around £3,500 (appliances sourced from other suppliers/eBay).
I have no regrets buying Ikea, in fact I like the fact that I can simply pop back and purchase additional items without having to go through the whole ordering process. Suits me just fine.
Hope that helps.0 -

Thanks so much for this, it really does help, the trouble is when you're looking for help on subjects like this, most of the reviews you find are complaints about it, not the good stuff. So yes, great, it does help loads. Thank youYes, yes I am! :dance:0 -
BTW, I picked the Tidaholm Oak Doors so you can better compare price.0

We will probably get our new kitchen from Ikea.
We already have their dishwasher which is great and also has a 5 year guarantee.
One of the things I like about getting it from there is the 25 year guarantee they give.0 -
Hi,
I have an ikea kitchen too and love it! I've had it 2 years and had no problems at all! I went for the White gloss doors and oak work top and fitted appliances!
I love the deep units and draws and the fact it's all soft close!
As I love it so much here's a piccyhttp://lisaloushouse.blogspot.com/2009/07/we-have-fully-working-kitchen-27th-july.html?m=1
One bit of advice I was given was to go for more drawers that cupboards! They are much easier as you can see easily what's in them, no having to move things about to get to the back!0 -
We got a new kitchen from IKEA in Jan 2010, and are very happy with it indeed. We'd been quoted by some local companies, and big-name brands, but like the original poster, kept coming back to the IKEA option. Having a little one meant that we couldn't do any of the work ourselves (except painting, and getting the in-laws to help lay the floor), and IKEA organised everything for us.
The guy who came out to measure up for us (we used their online design tool first) was honest, corrected our errors, and found a solution to some of the idiosyncracies of the room, which had eluded other companies. He also ensured that everything complied with building regulations, and that all of the space would be properly useable. We were also impressed with the quality when we visited the store - we'd been bored rigid by another company's salesman eulogising over the quality of his product, and gushing about the 10-year guarantee. We then popped into IKEA, to find the same quality, a 25-year guarantee, and a fraction of the price!
Our fitter was excellent - turned up when he said he would (despite having a 2-hour drive to get to us, in awful snowy conditions!) and did a quick, efficient and good job. It turned out that some of the parts which we had been sent weren't quite right, so he got the new parts delivered, and the wrong ones taken away with minimal fuss. Furthermore, we'd ordered a cupboard to go over the fridge, which he left until the last thing as he'd suggested we might not need it. He was right, we changed our mind, IKEA took the unit back (unopened) and gave us all our money back for it! We ended up taking a few pieces back as they hadn't been needed (kitchen fitters always order a few extra end-panels/packs of screws etc, in case they need to make things fit, it's just that most places won't accept unused returns!) - the money we saved on our original quote bought the new table and chairs!
18 months down the line, we're still very happy with the quality and user-friendliness of the kitchen. As a previous poster commented, if you want anything extra, you can just pop in and buy it. My one observation was that we did choose a bad time to visit the store to discuss it with a design assistant - it was chaotic and we had to wait quite a while to be seen. Go at a less busy time (probably during the day if you can take time off) and this wouldn't be a problem!
Good luck,

i had mine installed just over a year and a half ago now. it still looks great and the quality so far seems excellent. it has also survived my two year old hanging on one of the lower unit doors and opening and slamming another cupboard door.
my only problem has been the hardwood worktop splitting despite giving the 5 coats of the ronseal worktop oil. i will be speaking to them to see if thats part of the warranty though.
all in all, 14 units including the large pullout unit and corner pullout carrousel cupboard cost me 1500 plus about 1000 for my appliances which were mainly sourced from other places
i would def get another kitchen from them again when needed0 -

I am extremely grateful to you for posting your pics - the white gloss is what we are currently considering - and having a bank of tall units and an island so seeing your pics has been fab - it looks particulary nice with having the wooden surround - tell me how did you get on with your plinth - I heard that they didnt do an abstrakt white plinth but yours looks fab so what did you use??? Was your worktop/island surround from Ikea? I see your worktop is three wide - is it one deep or two?? What about your sink = I am currently trawling internet looking at sinks too - my head is buzzing from it all!! Did you have the tall or the extra tall?? Nosey arent I - sorry!
Thanks again for sharing !! x0
