    Hiya,

No problem, I find pictures are always useful and I also like to show my kitchen off ha ha ;)

    - tell me how did you get on with your plinth - I heard that they didnt do an abstrakt white plinth but yours looks fab so what did you use???

    I used this: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/04180610?query=041.806.10

It matches well but you barely notice it to be honest as it's set back from the front of the units!

    - Was your worktop/island surround from Ikea?

It was! Its called Personlig in oak which i think was the option to have it Made to fit your kitchen design. I cant see it on the website though. I'm just looking at the paper work and trying to make sense of it.

    - I see your worktop is three wide - is it one deep or two??

The island is 3 units long and 2 deep (one side they are 60 deep and the other 37 deep)

    - What about your sink = I am currently trawling internet looking at sinks too - my head is buzzing from it all!!

I chose the Boholmen sink http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S59847450

It felt a bit flimsy but it's held up so far! You can get the holes cut out of the worktops to fit the sink and hob etc too!

    - Did you have the tall or the extra tall??

The high cabinets were 60x233 - we have high ceilings so though we might as well! Need a step to reach the top though ha ha

    - Nosey arent I - sorry!

Haha no course you're not! I'm happy to help! If you've got any other questions just ask :)

    Hi,

I have an ikea kitchen too and love it! I've had it 2 years and had no problems at all! I went for the White gloss doors and oak work top and fitted appliances!

I love the deep units and draws and the fact it's all soft close!

As I love it so much here's a piccy :)http://lisaloushouse.blogspot.com/2009/07/we-have-fully-working-kitchen-27th-july.html?m=1

One bit of advice I was given was to go for more drawers that cupboards! They are much easier as you can see easily what's in them, no having to move things about to get to the back!

    Lovely Kitchen Lisa!
  • Hi
We had an Ikea kitchen fitted 4 years ago and we still absolutely love it. We looked at lots of options and always came back to Ikea as it cost half of what we would have paid elsewhere.

We have the white gloss doors, long brushed metal handles with oak top and we have had lots of comments on our kitchen. Everything is still as good as when we had it fitted. The oak top does need mineral oil applying every so often to keep it looking at it's best but we still think that the real wood looks really nice and is well worth it.

The only thing we've changed are the plinths as they were only available in a matt off-white and didn't match the doors, we wanted gloss white really. We have had brushed stainless steel ones made and they look fab - they really help to make a not expensive kitchen look very expensive.

The key to a good kitchen is the fitter - buy Ikea, get a good fitter to install it and you will get your dream kitchen for a lot less than anywhere else.

Great photos :) they look fab. The soft close thing is something that really appeals to me. I know most kitchens have it now, but still, it's lovely. Also, thanks for the tip about the draws, I'll remember that.

    Thanks :)

i had mine installed just over a year and a half ago now. it still looks great and the quality so far seems excellent. it has also survived my two year old hanging on one of the lower unit doors and opening and slamming another cupboard door.

my only problem has been the hardwood worktop splitting despite giving the 5 coats of the ronseal worktop oil. i will be speaking to them to see if thats part of the warranty though.

all in all, 14 units including the large pullout unit and corner pullout carrousel cupboard cost me 1500 plus about 1000 for my appliances which were mainly sourced from other places

i would def get another kitchen from them again when needed

Thanks for this, I keep reading that you need to keep children away from the kitchen as it just won't stand up to them, well how can you do that? silly nonsense! So I'm so glad you've said that. My children will definitely be hanging off them.

    Thanks :)

Thanks, another Post that pulls me closer to spending at Ikea :) Your kitchen sounds lovely. It's good to know that you've had yours for 4 years and it still looks as good as new. Again, I've kept reading that Ikea kitchens don't last more than 5 years, so be prepared to have to get a new kitchen every 5 years or so. This was obviously a little worrying, as it's such a large spend, and we spend a lot of time in our kitchen, hence the reason for getting it absolutely right.

    So thank you :)

We have used Ikea units in our office, they are great as general storage!

We also have them as storage in our Guide Hall (23 units), and in the Guide Hall utility room and kitchen (another 23 units).

So far ( 9 years) they have stood up to the abuse the Guides give them!

We used the IKEA sinks and taps. The taps are fine, the sinks are OK for the price, but in my own home I would go for a Franke sink. We did not use their appliances, but went for a Bosch hob, oven and fridge.

Franke sinks are excellent. Ours is 23 years old now and still looks great.

What lovely sinks, I've just been having a look through all of them. Thanks for the tip about them. And again, great to know how well the Ikea units stand up to the rough and tumble of kids. :)

This thread got me interested so I went online to see how much it would be to redo my kitchen, only to find Ikea don't do 100cm kitchen sink unit. Everything else I could get to complete the kitchen, shame apart from sink unit came under £500. Which I was surprised about. (not including sink, taps and worktops)

Is there a chance you might be able to get a sink unit to fit from another source?

I love the fact you can get a great looking kitchen for a fraction of the price elsewhere. I was just unsure of the quality when I started this thread, due to the fact all I could find on forums where complaints about them. But then, if you were happy with something, you're unlikely to go on-line to tell people you're happy about it aren't you, unless someone asks you! lol :)
