    Hello All

OH maintains that he only likes white meat. For reasons of economy - i have to disguise the brown meat. i normally make pastry topped chicken pie, and some kind of curry with the left over roast meat - but i agree, the meat needs to be reheated in the sauce and not cooked.

We cant afford to use chicken breasts each time. So a Rubber Chicken made into pie the second night and curry the third means we use up the whole chicken, OH doesnt notice the brown meat, and its more economical.

We make chicken pie receipe on the https://www.lovefoodhatewaste website, although I use puff pastry not shortcrust and also red peppers stuffed with chicken and spicy cous cous (my own receipe).

I always use the darker meat in a "sauce" otherwise H would never eat it (and I'm too tight to chuck it away!).

I love rubber chicken. I usually have it roasted first when family visit. I then make up as many one person sized portions of meat/veg/gravy for the freezer for taking to work later. I also freeze any leftover chicken, again in one person sized portions, to use for sandwiches or a salad at a later date. The chicken livers I make into pate. The carcass gets done in the slow cooker with lots of veg and pulses into several portions thick homemade soup, some of which I freeze.

I get a strange satisfaction out of using up every last bit of meat and stretching one chicken into lots and lots of meals. I acknowledge I live on my own most of the time and don't have to accommodate to anybody elses likes and dislikes but I used to be able to stretch a large chicken to several meals when my 4 sons were growing up. For those that don't like reheated chicken then use it up cold (it freezes well) or in soup (it can be whizzed smooth if preferred).

My mum used to mince left over chicken, mix with a bit of stuffing and gravy from the Sunday lunch and make a pie out of it. Minced you don't get the stringy texture and you can use every bit.

:T :D me too!! i'm very lucky that my other half respects the thing that died for us as much as i do and we eat every last scrap. i ususall s/c the chicken as the meat is Much easier to get off the bone and far tenderer, though by the sounds of it the OP wouldnt like it that way!

so we usually have 'roast dinner', then chicken piza with the 'pretty bits', curry or stew with the larger bits, then soup or pie with the smaller bits. yum. yum.

I do rubber chicken - but the leftover meat from the whole chicken is stripped from the bones and put into the freezer the same day. I may collect a couple of bags of chicken and then decide to do my curry - I then defrost the chicken overnight and add it to the curry sauce and cook until heated through - max of twenty minutes. and NO-ONE has ever said the chicken tasted funny!

I make a rough version of this with leftover chicken. I throw in anything that needs using up, plus extra chorizo, chilli and tobasco, as well as a little cayenne and/or paprika.

It's a favourite in our house, but it doesn't have the hard dry texture you may be looking for.

I really dislike reheated chicken. Dunno what it is about it, but it has a funny taste _pale_

I'll happily eat it cold, but I just can't make myself eat it warm again. I know that's absolutely no help whatsoever, but you're not alone :p

YES!!! Definitely agree - there was something not quite right about it...

I loved the idea of it, hence the reason I decided to give it a go. Alas it seems it was not for me. A shame as I do like frugal cooking!

Thanks for some of the ideas :)
