Not all NPers said they'd like this kind of surprise!:p
I'll never know .... nobody surprises me. I didn't get any birthday presents or xmas presents this year.... hardly likely to be sprung a weekend trip surprise. The biggest surprise though would be I don't have a passport :)

But my name carries a LOT of weight in Spain I believe.... if I could milk it, it'd be all hushed tones, nods and open doors.... although that might be pipe dream b0ll0x. Enough to say, I am royally connected.

I'll rehearse for it now then...... "Pastures New, Pastures New, Pastures New........"

The old Geraniums are still going strongly, I am starting to wonder if they could make it right through.

Netweather is a bit addictive although they do have all the same 'house prices will rise / no they will fall' type conversations but they are all about whether it will get cold and snow and are all in obscure meteorological language that I don't understand.

However basically the pattern we have had since December is a low pressure area over Greenland is sending warm westerly winds and storms over the UK. In December this band of wind/storms moved a bit to the south and the colder air to the north resulted in the cold snap but for the foreseeable future we will keep the current pattern with if anything the wind/storms moving further north so the south may be dryer and if it is clear and less windy there might be night frosts but no chance of snow.

In the longer term there may be a warming of the upper atmosphere which might disrupt this pattern and bring some colder weather but if/when this happens the colder weather may not come here anyway as it often goes down through Scandinavia to Europe. Before the last three years we had many winters with little in the way of cold and snow apart from in Scotland and the North so it is not impossible that we will go through the whole winter without anything appreciable cold.

    1) I've been watching a long range forecast for a while and its not been too bad in terms of overall trends (though the temps can be a bit out):

    2. Barcelona

OH went there, or somewhere near for a work conference. His flight arrived before others and I got a series of texts:

1Arrived at hotel, unpacked, going for a walk.

    2 Found a beach

    3 Its a nudist beach

4 Its a gay nudist beach!

    We were most amused.

. This is where I took Mrs Zag for a surprise weekend away for her birthday and didn't tell her where we were going till they called our flight (I'd smuggled her passport out of the house and said we were going out-of-town for the weekend - and when we ended up at the airport the airport staff were happy to keep the destination secret as well).

Lastminute.com got us a good deal for a Friday/Saturday stopover but it was a cheapo flight to an airport a good fistance from town.

Not all NPers said they'd like this kind of surprise!:p

I was once taken away for a surprise weekend. I hate surprises so the secret had to be broken beforehand.

In-laws were coming down for a weekend, just when I had been busy at work so I wasn't pleased, though really they were the babysitters sworn to secrecy. So I was making comments about how I was really too tired to be entertaining.:p
Friday night and we are all gathered around the dinner table and OH says "Shall we go for an italian tomorrow night?" I erupted and said, "Can we just get tonight's dinner done first!" At which point he puts 2 flight tickets to Milan on the table.:o

    I've been Money Tipped!
Hello. four days away and going to read back to catch up.

my news. Car is sort of but not totally fixed, but the finishing off can wait till late spring. (a window claim as suggestted by NPs). Terrible weather here meant I had to call my dad over to help me fix barn rooves. Not a great job for a wobbly woman on a stick and a pensioner in high winds, but quite funny nonetheless. There was a big crash in the wind that closed the top road in the village. I counted seven cars with blue lights (includin the one that closed the road from nearest small town). It looked really bad but I couldn't see how bad from my house. I saw the first rat in the yard. Or half a rat. feral cats had seen it first. I reckon it was flushed out from wherever it lives in the heavy rain. And spinathon and spinalot are not asleep anymore...does that mean its spring now?
