michaels, they can't upgrade your tax band in light of the extension until you move. However you definitely shouldn't appeal!

I am certainly not going to appeal about mine.

    (a) This house is bigger than my previous (rented) house, and in the same band.

    (b) All the houses in the street (built identically 40 years ago) are in the same band. Most have been extended at least a little, but mine has been extended more than most.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

No but when you do the historic valuation (is it 1991?) both this house and my last one appear to have been nudging the upper boundary of their band rather than the lower one....

It is 1991, but for them to put it up they would need pretty decent proof that it nudged up. Are there any houses identical to yours that sold then? It would be that sort of proof rather than the find your house price in 1991 type algorithms that would be needed. For the most part (unless a house is well out of band) they wouldn't touch those with a bargepole.

Given that your CT office is likely the same as mine and it has moved several times and doesn't have a lot of the records it would like, I wouldn't worry too much. If they do try to put it up, we can always find a reason to challenge.

I'm jut being dull of wit I imagine. :o I read it a few times and different ly each time.:o

I did rite more, then deleted because while I have no reason to believe anyone like sadistic boss reads I felt maybe I should be less explicit in my clarification of my own stupidity.

Anyway, its a moot point because dh has decided like gdb that honesty is the best policy. I offered to really fall over but dh said hubris never pays.:D

Oh, that's interesting. I thought they could increase on account of the extension. One new thing I learned today, thanks.

They will increase, but only for the next buyer. If you look up an extended property on the voa website, it should have a little blue symbol by it (I think a blue circle with an "i" in it). This indicates that the house is subject to review upon move.

i've not looked at mine. seems ok copared to previous houses, and indeed I fear a risk of moving up a band.

I wouldn't mind so much if THEY COLLECTED MY RUDDY RUBBISH. All my neighbours have had a new bin for plastic bottles, but they won't deliver ine because I do not exist. :(:(:( because they never collect my rubbish.

and MSE has started logging me out between posts and won't remember me either.......perhaps I've gon oer permitted word count/error count

Deed (rightly or wrongly) reminds me of Lord Denning and some of the the tricks that he used to get up to, preferring justice to the current law any time.

I'm not sure that Denning acted as a policeman / PI / hitman as well as screwing a barrister appearing in front of him, though?

Re Right to abode - latest UKBA website seems to suggest that you only have the right to return if you have been out of the country for less than 2 years?

It's more complicated than that, esp. if she was a BOC, for example.

That would be very un-MSE. They cost a fortune!

I thought that the last thing you want is a new-looking wig, if you want to be taken seriously by the court?

Yup. It ought to look as if it's been used to wipe floors.

So she could give her assets to the daughters so that they generate the income and would then be supporting her....

According to the tabloids, she could enter on a visitor's visa and never leave......

Unwise. Because she's presumably stated all her assets and income on her applications for VVs.
