No USB. Included but if it comes as a Easter bonus instead it is only taxed at 42%

It comes with a USB lead, so you can put stuff on it from your PC. I use a programme called Calibre, which allows you to maintain a library of books on your PC and download what you want onto the Kindle. It also converts all sorts of formats into Kindle's .mobi format.
    I think....

how does a kindle work? when you get it, does it only interface with amazon (in an itunes/apple kind of relationship) or can you download books on to it from anywhere you like.

can you buy vouchers which then act as credit against online downloads (in the same way as itunes vouchers).

i tried looking on amazon but it wasn't particularly clear.

AIUI you can access all sorts of freebies and the like. Most are kindle compatable.

Re the 2nd question, amazon vouchers can be used for kindle purchases. All you do is buy an amazon voucher. whoever does the purchase would have to make sure they buy the kindle edition.

A friend of mine absolutely loves his kindle. I still prefer books, luddite that I am.
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Or, better still, the case will settle on day 1, so you then get 2 weeks unpaid holiday. Such joy being an expert witness! Do you have anything in your terms of engagement so you get paid at least something in these circumstances?

the joys of being counsel, too.

  • there are over 3,000 people in my office. understandably we are therefore banned from using reception as a repository for people's stuff. i suppose i could get it all sent directly to my parents' house so it is there when i arrive on xmas eve.

Something to be said for a Chambers which has a grand total of 16 people in it!

  • I had a rather nice day today, work-wise. In my area of law, you get used to losing a lot.

Today I had a full JR at the High Court, and won. Just. Tight case, but swung it. Always nice!

Then nipped over to see OH before going back to Chambers - 10 minutes unexpectedly with him is lovely.

Got back to Chambers to discover a positive determination from a case I did a couple of weeks ago (judgment was reserved) so it was an extra nice day! And the Immigration Judge was nice about me, too. He said:

Miss NDG had received her instructions on the morning of the hearing, and apologised for not having had time to prepare a skeleton. She presented the case with skill and had clearly mastered her brief, and merits congratulations. It is, however, unfortunate that in such an important case the Appellant had to rely on Miss NDG's willingness to start work so early in the morning and prepare so thoroughly.

Congrats NDG, that's a really lovely thing to say.

Can we just clear one thing up though? I thought up until now that when you're up at 3am, that was you still around from the day before. Now I've read this, I'm wondering if that's when you get up:eek:.

Usually, it's up late. Occasionally, it's up early. It depends.
