I would prescribe a day listening to upbeat Christmas songs (Slade, Wizzard etc) while doing your work around the house, followed by sitting down to a good old film (pick any from Miracle on 34th Street, Its a Wonderful Life or White Christmas) and finishing off the day with reading Twas the Night Before Christmas with a mug of hot chocolate. If that doesn't work, well I don't know what to suggest.

I get fed up with the same old christmas music.

However, as a suprise for a very very good friend, I have tickets to It's a Wonderful Life being shown at an old traditional cinema.

    But it's a suprise, so shoosh!:shhh:;)

Has anybody got a spare wall I can bang my head against? :(

I'd bang it on my own walls but they're either wet with plaster, paint or totally inaccessible due to the amount of stuff placed around them.

.. Xmas.... can't even think about it. Not been around much as the old has had me run ragged and round in circles. We've seen more Doctors and 999 crews than you normally see in 10 years... and, this morning, the old's been carted off to a home for a spot of respite. Cue packing/inventory/getting old there.

So, things might be a bit quieter for a few days.

Sibling is coming down from up country for a week at Xmas, managed to secure them the let adjoined to the old at about 70% off, so I declared I don't need to get them a present :)

well, I'm not finding it easy! But in reality there is not much I CAN do. I don't suppose going to dh's office and giving sadistic boss a piee of my mind ould help much :rotfl:. I think all I can do is be a sounding board for dh and let him know I'll support what ever choice he makes. Things that are going on here have to be done whether we stay or if we went (and I wouldn't want to sell here immediately any way, even if we could). I genuinely can't think of anything practical I can really do otherwise!

    I've bolded the important bit.

Apologies, I think I may have misiterpreted you. It seemed originally that you were engaging in "ostrich syndrome" (ie burying your head in the sand & hoping it will go away). It always worries me when people do this, as ignoring a problem won't make it go away, & indeed you can get to the stage where it is too late to do anything productive to resolve it, or it becomes an even bigger task to fix it.

I hope that you get yourself a well earned break PN. You definitely deserve it.

I hope the same for LydiaJ.

I know that this christmas won't quite be the same for either of you, what with having lost parents this year. I can't relate exactly, the closest I get is when we lost my grandad one december. It was tough, as we were exceptionally close.

I'll be wishing the best for you 2 in particular.

House takes one step forward two steps back. Was so pleased on Monday evening but we seem to have gone not very far since then.

I don't really give a hoot that it's taken nearly two days to make the doors from the hallway look fabulous, I'd rather that time be spent on something that I might find useful. The vague threat is that if it is not done in a particular order, it will take longer overall. I am finding that a bit hard to believe.

I am miserable. People certainly have much bigger challenges than this and I do try to count my blessings, but family life has been decimated and that is the thing I hold sacred. H's route of choice has been to return things to 'normal' asap but the upshot of that is like shutting an entire motorway for two months to resurface it, instead of doing it during overnight for six.

Sorry :( Being a bit ungrateful, I know.

I understand what you are going through DG - I think it is now the case that every room in the house needs decorating but some we have already had to start living in plus the plaster is cracking as apparently we have the house too warm? Builders are going this week though so I was thinking a few weeks of to sort out and paint but... but work are trying to send me to London full time even though in theory I have about 2 months of leave stored up and I will get paid f all for any extra work after tax/benefits :(
    I think....
