I would prescribe a day listening to upbeat Christmas songs (Slade, Wizzard etc) while doing your work around the house, followed by sitting down to a good old film (pick any from Miracle on 34th Street, Its a Wonderful Life or White Christmas) and finishing off the day with reading Twas the Night Before Christmas with a mug of hot chocolate. If that doesn't work, well I don't know what to suggest. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I've already bought my DW her Chanukah present for this year. She's getting an Anglepoise lamp. We don't do romantic very often, I'm afraid. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Or, better still, the case will settle on day 1, so you then get 2 weeks unpaid holiday. Such joy being an expert witness! Do you have anything in your terms of engagement so you get paid at least something in these circumstances?
Unfortunately I'm not an expert witness, I am part of the team instructing counsel and there is no prospect of settlement. I used to work for an expert witness. I wrote his reports, he went to four hour lunches most days, every case settled well in advance of trial. Best job ever (for him!).0 -

I think three days of dh home MIGHT do the trick.TBH, I think at its not so much about christmas but about other stuff. Sadistic boss is being a nightare to dh, he's had an offer e doesn't want to accept from someone else and has another interiew for a place he would like soon. His old boss who is in NYC said he wanted DH there.....(and also said some unrepeatable things about sadistic boss and a few other people) he really restored some dh's confidence which is being damaged...but then sadistic boss started chipping at it out again it within hours. I guess my attention and concern is just elsewhere right now.
Meanwhile the house is exciting. My pics of the ceiling down don't look terribly exciting so I'm waiting for the rafters to come out to snap again. I can't see we have enough rubbish resulting from the work for skip that has arrived. I might throw one of the dog's sofas in it.0 -

To add a touch of romance, maybe you could put a sign on it "for the woman who lights up my life". Now where's that stick two fingers down your throat smilie when you need it?Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I thik that's very sweet.
romance is intersting in it importance. I kno a lot feel they really need it. DH is more romantic than I am. To me laughter is more important, and sincerity. In fact roance without the sincerity is a bit scary and ith incerity I think the mundane becomes a bit romantic.0 -

I do hope so lir. Its not nice being in your situation at the moment lir because you have the house, which should make you feel grounded, but its clear DH's situation puts everything up in the air again. Plus I'm sure there's a bit of you that feels "must stay strong for him" while things on the home front grind along at a slower pace than you'd like.
I'll make flippant suggestions like the films and stuff because they do induce a feel good factor, but of course we all know its only a sticking plaster. It's such a shame that so many NPs have not had the best of years. Here's hoping 2012 is better. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Apart from that, they have a kitchen, living room, sitting room, and dining room.
I've said it before, & I'll say it again.
Scullery is a great word! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

I have to say that personally I rarely find such a strategy works. It can often seem easier to do nothing. Rarely is that the best option.
Just my opinion lir...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

well, I'm not finding it easy! But in reality there is not much I CAN do. I don't suppose going to dh's office and giving sadistic boss a piee of my mind ould help much :rotfl:. I think all I can do is be a sounding board for dh and let him know I'll support what ever choice he makes. Things that are going on here have to be done whether we stay or if we went (and I wouldn't want to sell here immediately any way, even if we could). I genuinely can't think of anything practical I can really do otherwise!0
