I understand what you are going through DG - I think it is now the case that every room in the house needs decorating but some we have already had to start living in plus the plaster is cracking as apparently we have the house too warm? Builders are going this week though so I was thinking a few weeks of to sort out and paint but...
Don't newly plastered walls crack whatever you do or don't do?
Live with the cracks for a year then repair and repaint?but work are trying to send me to London full time even though in theory I have about 2 months of leave stored up and I will get paid f all for any extra work after tax/benefits
I know you quote a marginal tax rate of 72%, but surely that doesn't extend forever. The 72% may be for the first few thousand, but then it must drop????

well, work has slowed down today. The rafters are, I'm told, like rock to go through. The Boys are sawing and sawing and but making slow prgress (they hav to be sawn at this satge as one end has been built into the end wall). and the floor IS rock, one flag has had to be sacraficed inorder to get the crea separater out,but they hve gone four inches into the flag and till ahven't come out the other side of it. Seems almost a waste to put such hefty stone back down as floor and now I type wonder hat that means for the iea of our heated floors!0

Any lovefilm fans here?
We had a subscription over the Summer that started off free then we cancelled. Because we were not so quick off the mark and wanted it a bit longer we had the first 2 months free then paid for the next one, then cancelled. So we paid £18 for 3 months, which was fine.
Now I have moved bank accounts and get a lovefilm subscription with that, though its only a basic subscription.
Today we get sent "free" offers to give to friends for Xmas. Its 2 completely free months. The only catch I can see is that you have to sign up for the service with bank account details and then cancel. To make sure you are not charged you have to make sure you get all outstanding discs sent back by the end of the free time and phone to cancel. If any NP want to take advantage of this let me know and I'll PM the code. On your own head if you don't cancel in timeI'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. and you're sorted. I have no intention of visiting any shops. Send everything to the office where someone will be there to sign for it.
there are over 3,000 people in my office. understandably we are therefore banned from using reception as a repository for people's stuff. i suppose i could get it all sent directly to my parents' house so it is there when i arrive on xmas eve.0 -

The same applies in dh's office...but if you are nice enough to reception staff.....:D0 -
Only the next 12k for this financial year which is pretty much all the extra I am likely to earn between now and the end of March given the most I can do is 4 days a week and there is xmas and other odd days and I already do 2s days/week.
I have already told the boss if there is an xmas bonus this year I would rather not have it than see most disappear especially as half goes as tax now and the other half would have to be found as tax credit repayment next yearDon't newly plastered walls crack whatever you do or don't do?

how does a kindle work? when you get it, does it only interface with amazon (in an itunes/apple kind of relationship) or can you download books on to it from anywhere you like.
can you buy vouchers which then act as credit against online downloads (in the same way as itunes vouchers).
i tried looking on amazon but it wasn't particularly clear.0 -

surely if they're just going to give you free money, it doesn't matter if you have to pay 72% of it away. you still get to keep 28% for not doing anything?0 -

And some of it would find its way into our (the hard pressed taxpayer) pockets or at worse paying down that deficit'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

It comes with a USB lead, so you can put stuff on it from your PC. I use a programme called Calibre, which allows you to maintain a library of books on your PC and download what you want onto the Kindle. It also converts all sorts of formats into Kindle's .mobi format. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
