One for the NP interior designers.
Entrance hall and dining room are going to be tiled, shiny white porcelain tiles. Options are 600 square laid out in rows or 600x300 laid out in a 'brickwork' style. Thoughts?
why not on a slant? IMO makes places look bigger and makes the most of having a modern setting. If we had that's what I'd do.0 -
Drat.
Just been replying to Afriend's latest on the other site, and had a quick browse on RM in some of the areas he's considering. Then had a quick look to see what's available in my old search area here. I've just seen that my friend's buyer's house is back on the market. Really hoping they can get the chain (or a chain) back together quickly. They really need this move.At least the one they're hoping to buy is still marked SSTC, and I know their seller has said they're not in a hurry, so here's hoping....
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
I have the simon's cat book. I love simon's cat.
re other reading matter, I am trying very hard to love the hare with the amber(?) eyes but just can't get into it. Everyone raves about it, the fault is mine. I don't think I'm in the right frame of mind for it atm.0 -
Actually when people were generalising earlier about the NPs I wondered how many feel they live "in the sticks".
In my last place you'd need to pop in the car to buy even a box of matches as I lived miles from any shops or transport. Didn't stay there long!
I'm a city guy at heart and the country doesn't suit me. Feel that puts me in a minority here or do others live in cities/big towns,
Realise that gbd, ndg and probably wheezy are in the same city as me. :hello:
PN, lir, dave sound like you're at the edge of the map! Everyone else not sure whether you're in large or small cities/towns/villages/settlements whatever.:p
I'm not at edge of map any more. Have a lucky quiet spot but near towns and trains. Its weird not having to plan ahead so much, and I don't go as far these days because everything is near. I don't think that's very good for me. I like really having the two extremes, of city centre and total isolation muchy more, and I'd choose the latter if forced to. This is the best compromise we found, and most of the time it doesn't feel like a compromise, but when it does it bugs me. I'm a creature of habit and routine, but like the routine to encompass diverse and broad situations.0 -
Not sure, sounds a bit art deco to me which is not really my thing, I don't do form over function, boring and dependable for em every time. I also have problems with houses where the inside and outside don't match - for example no slab gloss kitchens in a victorian terrace etc.
Thanks guys for some good recomendations on 'own use' mattresses but i am no further forward on how to choose between the hundreds of options in the £100-200 range. I'm afraid it is only going to be a 4.6 double for my guests tho, the guest room although ensuite is only about 9x13 so a massive bed would be outsize for the room methinks.lostinrates wrote: »why not on a slant? Evening mateys. Hope all are well. Letter today telling me that ATOS might well be poking around my sickness benefits. Can`t they leave an old begger alone who is recovering from a huge breakdown ? At my weakest point I answered the door to a Jehovahs Witness. That would be 18 months ago. Still keep tipping up. Anyway, he hasn`t worked for 11 years. Says he has depression and work is too stressful. Banging on peoples doors is not stressful ? After 40 years of working just don`t need all this carp.
Ah yes Mr. Pobby, there are tons of jobs for 62 and a half year olds with agrophobia, weird sleep patterns and the likely hood you will punch some ones lights out or collapse in tears.
Got to laugh re my compo claim. Apparently I agreed to forfeit £1,500 a month in commission. Yea right, yawn. They have employed solicitors. Looking forward to their defence.
Looking forward to my visit to the S.E . See my new great niece, Evie Rose . Got to start the arrangements about moving back there. Big network there, so hoping I will get fit enough to get off benefits and do some work.0 -

It's good you still have your sense of humour intact, and I hope you invite the Jehovah's Witness in for a cup of tea. You could talk about the football. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Well as I don`t go to bed early. get up about 6am , take a ton of meds, sleep for about a further 5 hours , then there a knock on the door. Rush to the bedroom window. A Red Ford, do not answer the door. Not sussed out that it is best to park out of my view. I sort of have strange semi sleep audio hallucinations. This morning I heard Knocking on my bedroom window. Oh no, they have a ladder. As it worked out it was Mike next door doing a bit of hammer practise. I do not want to be a witness. How many more times.0

I had a pretty big melt down/breakdown when I arrived in Aus. My suspicion is that forcing myself to go back to work (canvassing for phone numbers in shopping centres!) and getting better went hand-in-hand.
Of course it might have been that getting better allowed me to work and so it was a one way street. However, that isn't how it felt at the time and it isn't how it feels now. Working allowed me to get a bit better and getting a bit better allowed me to work.
My advice (FWIW) is to take it easy at first in terms of how much mental energy a job takes. Stack shelves a couple of nights a week in the supermarket or collect the empty glasses in the pub. Something that just requires the ability to turn up on time and take instruction.
It may be that doesn't work for you and that you need to take a different road but it sure worked for me. I got a promotion 2 weeks ago at work and things are getting better and better chez Generali.0
