The following phrase was quoted to me today:

"Nothing succeeds like a parrot with no teeth"

Didn't have a clue what it meant.

Part spoiler (highlight to reveal): succeeds= sucks seeds

But that doesn't explain what it means! Any ideas?

Edit: I have no idea what it refers to and parrots don't even have teeth. I missed the reveal bit at first.

Anyone else watching the spoof Angela Merkel twitter acct: Angela_D_Merkel?

    This is my favourite tweet:

These bloody men are just scared of commitment. Some of us believe in fiscal union BEFORE sharing our assets.

    Brilliant book, the Cyberiad!
Bought it after reading excerpts of it in this:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Minds-Fantasies-Reflections-Penguin-Science/dp/014006253X/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1322128634&sr=8-3

I loved the Cyberiad, & I don't read sci-fi. The book I'd be most likely to recommend sci-fi would be either Frankenstein, or Hitch-hikers Guide...

Good suggestions. I'd offer Replay by Ken Grimwood -middle-aged man thinks he's having a heart attack but wakes up in his 18-year old body knowing everything that's going to happen for the next 25 years. Astonishingly good read. Everybody I've got to read it has ended up raving about it.

Or Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut. He's written more famous stuff but nothing better than this.

I always like a good recommendation, as I can't find time to read more than three or four books a year at most. :o

Pension always looks poor, don't need the money urgently assuming the pick up in work continues to next year when I will be back to a 42% tax payer rather than 72%

Chamber concert went well, crowd loved it....one very relieved mum!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Despite the fact that we are all equal why do men and women read different types of books?

If you don't need the money and you get the gross value from the pension, that's worth doing. Providing you have a good investment vehicle that is.

I read quite blokey books as I prefer non-fiction.

I have just finished reading Hello Dubai, by Joe Bennett, spurred on by the debate on the subject a few months back (I would recommend to anyone who is interested) as well as Max Pemberton's latest biography about his work in the NHS. This is my third Pemberton book and it is a fantastic insight. I also think its his best to date.

I am about to start reading a book about the code breakers at Bletchley Park.

    Here's some links:
