Whitechapel is a crime-ridden hell-hole IMO. It's nearly as bad as up north, worse in some respects.
I used to live in Wapping and the Generalissimo was banned from touching Whitechapel.0 -

I have only briefly visited London & last year was the first time I spent any actual time there. Don't know the norf/sarf divide properly there.
Because of my wierd JtR fascination, I loved wandering around Whitechapel.

Have you lost your inner 'tara a bit'? That's my favourite expression from round those parts. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I must say, I prefer to not dwell on this too much when walking to the tube station after finishing work late. That also applies to the Ripper stuff too. I always feel jumpy enough after an 11 hour day at work!0 -
It has Tayyabs and several other Indian restaurants- some of the the best in London (but not fancy or good for slow eaters). You can eat like a king for less than a tenner! - but bring your own booze.
Also has gentrified pubs such as the Blind Beggar (as frequented by Frankie and others) selling lagers at about £4 per pint!
I work just round the corner from Tayyabs - definitely better than Brick Lane IMO.
Have only been to the Blind Beggar a couple of times - and the only thing of I've found of real note has been the prices.0 -

When is Tayyab's emptiest? Love the grub (and prices) - hate the queues! :mad:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

brick lane is terrible though, so that's not saying much. i honestly don't know why anyone gets so excited about it. just a street with about 20 of the worst curry houses the world has ever seen, and a couple of really terrible bars to boot.
pretty much any other curry house in london is better!0 -

If you're used to Indian food from outside London there aren't many places I'd recommend down here. Most of it's not a patch on what you get in Glasgow and I'd imagine midlands Indian food would be pretty good too.
Tayyab's and one or two others nearby are OK but the other good one is the India Club Hotel- if you can find it! It's hidden up a stairwell in a hotel in the Strand, just across from the Indian embassy and near to Bush House and claims to be the oldest Indian restaurant in London (not sure that's true though). You might recognise some of the customers from the beeb there. My fave!:)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
