Well DD2's teacher owned up to calling her DD1 half the time (to which DD2 apparently responds quietly but forcefully 'No it's DD2') and she will have DS1 in 3 years so who knows, especially if DW continues to rule out a hair cut for him.
My primary school had a rule that you had to have your first name embroidered on your PE kit. My mother started with great enthusiasm, but by the time Lily was at school, she'd run out of it. So Lily went through primary school with a mixture of PE shirts and netball skirts that were embroidered with "NDG" and my other sister's name.
As my other two sisters look very similar, Lily went through secondary school being called by her next sister's name, too. Never bothered her, though. She was quite proud of her PE kit (-:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
There were two of us with the same name in the same year at my grammar school.
On the first day, when they read out the class lists, 'the other one' was obviously paying attention, heard his name and went off with others to his class. I thought I'd heard my name called, but then heard it, assumed I'd been mistaken the first time and went off to the class I'd definitely heard mentioned. Anyway, as a result, we both ended up in different, but wrong, classes.
No one realised; after all we both answered to our names. Indeed, for a while, neither of us realised there was another one.
After a year or two, it began to dawn that something was amiss. I would get really good reports for French, for example, and I was pants. His parents would be told that he was struggling in Latin, and clearly he wasn't etc. In the end, it didn't take more than a simple date of birth check to reveal what we'd suspected for a while.
Even after we thought we'd sorted it all out, things still went wrong. If I remember correctly, we still had the other's report for a subject or two in sixth form. By then, he'd discovered alcohol, snooker and gambling and I'd caught up a bit, so the discrepancies weren't quite so marked.
A year or two ago I had a message out of the blue from Friends Reunited. It was some guy I'd hardly registered while at school, now living in the USA. "Hey," his message went, "I remember you Dave! You spent some time in a big plaster neck brace after a rugby injury...."
I replied immediately and rather tersely, "No, that was the other one. You didn't know me. If you did, you'd know I'd never be injured on any rugby field!"0 -
I'm just putting away the winter things and realised that I wore my warm winter coat twice this year, both times in Canberra.
Oh well, it'll get plenty of wear next year. I'm planning a visit to the UK in winter 2012 so I'll have 3 winters in a row:(0 -
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0

My aunt, who is on DLA and has emphysemia (sorry I know that's probably not the right spelling) has been told she can't have her annual flu jab as there's no money. You may recall earlier in the year I got the same answer when I asked to have a painful mole removed. Just wondered if anyone else is getting the same.
Seem to recall a news story that nationally they were going to scale back flu jabs etc for many groups as a cost cutting exercise, though certain groups (such as the elderly) would not be affected by this (although given your question, perhaps I should pop over the dave's lying again... thread). It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Not had any probs for the kids and I have Bupa.
Just had parents evening - I don't think the teachers know which child is which - Our boolshie, noisy DD1 is apparently as good as gold and our quiet, shy DD2 apparently happily participates in class even in large groups and doesn't take any nonsense.
Really hoping the teachers didn't say "well they all look the same to me!"
Love the LydiaJ response to this one though! Genius!:DIt's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

I'll be digging the winter stuff out over the next week or so.:(
I don't mind winter. I don't like the miserable grey weather inbetween now & winter - that frustrates me. As does arriving for work in the dark & leaving work & it is already dark. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

It's really hard not seeing the two colours against each other, they will either work spectacularly or look dreadful together. I was wondering about something in a not too deep navy with the wall colour, or perhaps a lovely pewter.
I love the style of the older burners though. They are stunning.
You're probably best off not listening to me though as my house is all pastels and different shades of grey. You'd hate it.
I think your house sounds lovely. Its about the right stuff for the right people innit? A lot of people would do a predominantly Georgian house like ours in neutrals and drabs, which I also think is gorgeous, but the good thing about decor is it can be changed. I like the idea of bolder, (more Georgian!) room colours that a lot of people wouldn't like. The study in particular is going to have a lot of cabnitry...bookshelfs etc....and so little arseninc will be there. DH fancies a sort of Italian Jew Atlantis sort of vibe.....which is what I'm abstractly trying to get.0 -
lIR, why does the ceiling need to be blue and White? (I'm imagining a painted cloud scene!) wouldn't White make the room lighter and brighter.
Cant imagine what an Italian Jew Atlantis vibe means, but I'm not sure I'd mix blue and green - dump the green, there are so many different shades of blue to choose from.

Its sad when autumn foliage isn't spectacular but I still find this time of year beautiful. It was a proper grey and misty morning this morning, so much so I decided to hold opening the door for the chooks and geese for an hour. I love walking the dogs in the mist, they play a scary game called.....jump out of the mist at lir and make her squeal....I also think its the loveliest season to enjoy food in....just as you feel blue about the lack of good fresh salady things you get (groan nice people) mushroon risotti and paste and pumpkin everything...soup, risotto, dh and I eat a bit of just roast pumpkin as meals...he likes his with a little chilli and honey drizzled on it, I like mine plain. I make hands done THE best pumpkin soup in the world and about this time of year friends start phoning asking me to remind them of my recipe.:D. Nuts, and chestnuts (must get some chestnut for dh to have this weekend!) chestnuts with squash in all those good things above. Baked apples, rich with dates and nuts and cinnamon and honey...or, for naughtier meals...apple dumplings..
This is one of the few times in Britain you see colours like orange and red working well in nature, in fashion etc....I love autumnal colours in autumn.:j:j...colourful scarves and gloves come out, bright warm coats, then fireworks, and bonfires.0
