For all you big fat gypsey weddings fans:

    http://www.expressandstar.com/news/2011/10/12/mother-of-nine-in-63k-fraud-is-spared-prison/

Imagine if the white horse read that!
    Also, worst name ever?

Silly jokes - I've loads of em. Took the wife out last night. One punch!

sentences for fraud in this country are pretty light and very inconsistent. the max you can get (even if you tens of millions) is 10 years, plead guilty at the last minute and that's down to 7, and you'll basically serve 3.5 years in an open prison then get released with a tag on. a case i worked on a few years back the guy got 3.5 years (reduced from 5 for a guilty plea) for a fraud in the hundreds of millions.

    no quite madoff is it.

But even 3.5 years is a long time to be locked up.

OH's is, "What's the difference between a Jewish mother and a rottweiler? A dog lets go - in the end."

What's the difference between Social Services and a rottweiler? You can get your kids back from a rottweiler.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

But these days there's likely to be a confiscation order.

but you have to be able to prove the person still has the money in order to confiscate it. this can be pretty difficult if the person set out to commit a fraud and has deliberately hidden / laundered it.

i don't think it really creates much of a deterrent effect. if you are a career criminal, it's probably worth the risk if you can squirrel away a significant amount. also, you can ruin hundreds of peoples lives in the process, and i'm not sure that a few years in an open prison really addresses that.

Being away from your friends, family and business for 3.5 years is a long time and even open prisons will be full of the sort of people you wouldn't want to mix with.

I saw a lovely joke that was doing the rounds of Facebook recently.

After all these Blackberry problems recently, what if there were problems with iPhones too? The headlines could read "Blackberry and Apple crumble".
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

A friend of mine works in an open prison.

She says that the nicest people are the fraudsters, followed by the murderers, and the least pleasant are the muggers and assaulters. So you could be in for murder and still not like the people you have to mix with.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

To the best of my knowledge I have no Jewish heritage. I am however a bit of a mix, a bit English, a bit Irish, a bit Romany and a bit something else that I have no idea what it is. I do strangely identify very strongly with Hertfordshire though. I have very deep roots in the county.
