I'm just English, with nothing more exotic mixed in than a tiny bit of Scottish. And Christian, since we're listing our beliefs. Technically C of E, but the Christian bit's important to me and the denominational label isn't. I've always had some kind of vague prejudice mildly in favour of Jews, though. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've liked all the ones I've known personally so far.lostinrates wrote: »Now we have to work out percentages for other things that I think we are different from national average in on the thread......edit: 30-50% really?
Suggestions, then lir, of things you think we're different from the national average about, please.
Oh, and what was that you said about going to Milan for your case against your landlord? I've afraid I've forgotten what that was about. Could you remind us? (Here or "over there", if you'd prefer, or not at all, of course, if you think better not.)Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Makes sense...you are more likely to trust someone who is ''nice'' I guess.0 -

When I decided against conformation my priest and the Monsignor I was very much in touch with said it was important to make effort to be good, and to resist evil....and to believe in the goodness that could exist and that it didn't really matter how. When we were going to get married ''properly'' we were talking to a rabbi (the one who was involved in DH's Bar Mitzvah) and he said he thought that if we had kids they would count as ok, and he'd put in a word for them at the end for us. I very much like the idea of faith, and believe in some things....I just can't believe things I'd have to to be a Christian. At times that makes me very sad. A lot about faith and faith communities appeals to me. Your church always sounds like somewhere I'd like to be comfortable.

Urgh....I think there is even an old thread about it over there. I can find it and bump it if so! Longstory short: our flat turned out not to have a roof..we found out in winter...when it rained.
edit: things we are different from the average.....um.....more mushroom haters than average? Maybe more smallholders (does Gen count now?) than average?0 -

OK, so maybe I am very dim, or naive, or thick-skinned, but why do you think you might have offended anyone? I haven't noticed you saying anything I would consider offensive to anybody.lostinrates wrote: »When I decided against conformation my priest and the Monsignor I was very much in touch with said it was important to make effort to be good, and to resist evil....and to believe in the goodness that could exist and that it didn't really matter how. I hope so. My church places a high value on trying to be a place where people can feel comfortable whether they believe stuff or live the lifestyle or not. Not that it's some kind of ultra-woolly "doesn't matter what you believe" kind of place. More "we believe xyz to be the truth, and abc to be the right way to live, but everyone's welcome to belong here whether or not they agree".lostinrates wrote: »Urgh....I think there is even an old thread about it over there. Definitely more smallholders. And more people with some kind of traveller/gypsy background.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Even though I've lived here 23 years, I haven't really found a Hertfordshire culture to identify with. Maybe that's because I'm so near to the London boundary.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Oh, are we fewer in vegetarians? Viva is (and I keep wondering if OI remembered to tell her about the veg place dh adored in London, he had savoury pannacotta) and treliac is....and I miss her. And dopester...0

In her later years, my grandmother would tell me stories of her younger days, previous generations etc. After she past on, I was discussing some of the things she had told me with my mother. Turned out that the truth was somewhat elaborated. Any distant relatives she liked/ were good/ well known became her nearest and dearest. Any close relatives that she didn't get on with became 3rd cousins. A quite famous author she claimed was a first cousin, turned out not to be related.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. LIR, as far as I can see, roughly 30-50% of the people on the nice people thread are either Jewish or married to someone Jewish. I'll come out of the closet on that one - both apply to me.
Chag sameach, by the way.
Snap!
Also 100% welsh (well at least going back 3 generations).I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
