    Had a busy enough sunday.
Woke up, hung the washing out to dry. Pickled my beetroot (or bee'roo' as it seems to be called round here!;)). That is now jarred & in a cupboard for christmas with a sticker on warning everyone not to dar touch it.

Tidied up my bookcases as I have acquired a couple of additional storage areas for books. I tend to read a few & pile them up, before filing them away when a significant stack has built up. I was desperate for space, & a couple of small bookcases became available mse style so wahay!:D Still have loads of books to read too.:o

Went to the football, which went well. Lovely day - walked to the ground in blazing sunshine. Clouded over during the game, but never really got cold or looked like rain. Was really impressed by how we (as a team) have developed in the close season.

    Ate more home made soup.

Misskool/Viva, a friend of mine honeymooned in scotland, as it was a dream to look at the northern lights, listen to pink floyds "wish you were here", whilst inhaling a medicinal cigarette;)
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Do you mind if I ask two questions? Where is on everyone's to do list travel wise, and what's their favourite place they've been to? Can be in this country too Pastures.

    Favourite place :

    - Lebanon. went there twice, in '00 and '02, lovely country, quite small but soooo much to offer.
Did all the day trips listed here with a travel company called Nakhal and each one was a great experience, especially the Baalbeck and Byblos/Jeita trip
    http://www.nakhal.com/lebanonTours.aspx?pageid=1115

    Other favourites :

    - Istanbul
    - Lisbon
    - Rome

    To do list :

    - Syria/Jordan (probably not a good idea right now)
    - Morocco
    - Crete
    - Brazil

I sadly never went to Lebanon, I had a good internet buddy who I am sure would have made a great guide and offered to show me around but relationships here got in the way and any way she was a bit nervous as culturally at the time it would have been a bit dodgy for her to have acted as my guide without a chaperone (and she admitted to being a smoker which put me off a bit).
    I think....

No rules misskool. Experiences are good. I've just added Northern Lights to my to do list, so thanks...

The Lake District for general wandering around with tea breaks in between.

Otherwise, Mulu National Park in Malaysia.

Driving in Melbourne along the Great Ocean Road to the twelve apostles.

Road trip across the Southern states of America from San Francisco to Boston.

I think that when I envisage the Northern lights, I'd be more lir and be in iceland/norway with huskies, seen a few fjords, driven in some snow blizzards. etc

:o the only problem is i hate being cold. :rotfl:

Another who would like to see the Northern Lights...want to be in Norway for this. I would also like to go to Leptis Magna ....what is it with Libya that is attracting so many of us....is there a touch of the Kate Adie somewhere deep inside us all?

Places I return to...Glencoe and Ardnamurchan Peninsula, Florence (I adore "David"), Musee D'Orsay , Abbaye in Solesmes - for the chanting- it is sublime. West Wittering for all sorts of reasons, currently because my dog can swim for England and he just loves retrieving sticks from the sea.

My immediate dilemma is where to go on holiday at the end of September....

Same here. Though I suspect that colder countries are better at dealing with the cold. Their boilers are more reliable and don't stop the minute pipes freeze.

The UK tends to be cold and damp in winter which means you feel the cold more. Scandinavians I have known used to moan about the English winter being cold!

We are going to see late-nearly-ex's parents for one night. DD wants to pack ALL her soft toys in an enormous suitcase. I have chosen our smallest suitcase for my stuff. Conversation as follows:

Her: Why don't you want the big brown suitcase?
Me: I don't want to take much stuff.
Her: Don't you want to take your teddy? [I still have my teddy from when I was a child. Sometimes I let her play with him but then DS gets upset for reasons I haven't quite fathomed. Both of them think I should give the teddy much more attention than I do. They have some insecurities, of course, because of losing a parent, and seem to have some emotional investment in thinking that I should love the teddy forever, possibly as evidence that I will love them forever too.]
Me: No, he can stay at home.
    Her: Don't you love him?
Me: Yes, but I don't need to see him every day. That's what happens to you when you grow up. I still love my parents but I don't need to see them every day.
Her: I need to see you every day.
Me: That's because you're seven. When you're grown up, you'll still love me but you won't need to see me every day.
Her: Oh, so I'd better make the most of you now, then.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)
