What is ir about Dubai you like?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Probably not popular on these boards, but I think I'd like to go to Iceland.
& I think I'd also like to go to Pompeii. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

I'd love to se the Red fort http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Fort and can't understand why its not as famous as the Taj Mahal, which I don't think is as beautiful at all. As a child a visit to Pakistan rather scared me and put me off the whole region, but now India appeals, and TBH, wouldn't mind revisiting pakistan now. I also think some of those middle eastern areas so plagued in ''recent'' history also would be incredibly wonderful to explore in peace....I'm trying to remember the name of the ancient underground/cave city in Iran (?) ..how amazing to see that. And the Alisadr caves, and the Caspian Sea.
I think the Red Fort is amazing - in fact, I love Delhi altogether....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Me: Yes, but I don't need to see him every day. That's what happens to you when you grow up. I still love my parents but I don't need to see them every day.
Her: I need to see you every day.
Me: That's because you're seven. When you're grown up, you'll still love me but you won't need to see me every day.
Her: Oh, so I'd better make the most of you now, then.
I remember a vaguely similar conversation with my mother when Granny went home after Christmas one year - asking if she wasn't really sad she had gone. My mother said something like you did.
Actually, I'm now 33 and speak to my mother on the phone most days, although I dont' actually see her every day (-:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Another who would like to see the Northern Lights...want to be in Norway for this. I would also like to go to Leptis Magna ....what is it with Libya that is attracting so many of us....is there a touch of the Kate Adie somewhere deep inside us all?
..
I've always felt a want to spend time in the middle east. When friends at school were dreaming of India and China I always thought the middle east more for me. Reasons I think this might be so: that I felt more French then, and the realtion is different, that my mother spent a long time in Saudi, that I had a very dear Lebanese friend at school. Oh, and something ...a very brief incident that really felt more important than it was...when I was little visiting London with a very, very glamourous lady and her daughter we went into a very stylish boutique...the kind that locks the doors behind you and you are the only customers. It was a great treat for we little girls. My friends mother introduced us to one of the seamstresses and asked her where she was from, and the seamstress replied with a generous rolling of ''r's '''Perrrrrrsia''. Afterwards my friends mother started to explain the fractured history of the area and that saying ''Persia'' meant something political not geographical. I suppose somehow it all got wrapped up in being with that family, who I loved very dearly and that woman who was the most glamourous in her daily life I have ever known.0 -
There is the most amazing sunset in London right now - the whole northern sky is a patchwork of pink, orange and pale blue. Amazing!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

It must be a big sky, ours is the same. To the south its only pink and blue though....like an undecided nursery. It was the same here last night. We often have incredible skies here, they are HUGE and beautiful.0 -

I actually dislike Dubai quite a lot.
It's a fake place, with no real history or existance. It's full of fake things such as ski-ing domes. And it won't let my OH and son in at all, because they hold Israeli nationality....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I can see that Dubai has amazing hotels, but isn't the area characterless?
You could shove those hotels anywhere hot and get the same experience.
Having just spent a week at the Italian Lakes, where you have the beautiful scenery and the contrast between the Alps and the Lake, I'm looking for somewhere in a beautiful setting.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
