I want to see the penguins in their natural habitat (as opposed to Whipsnade or London zoo), but can't face long flights. OH is determined to get me to Australia at some point.
We were planning on going somewhere like the Maldives for our silver wedding anniversary later in the year, but don't know if that will be possible now.
Go to Phillip Island and you're in Aus where penguins live.0 -

That's what was confusing me. The weather's so variable today. How can it be "Its cold and raining out", just 7 miles North of where it's sunny and warm? It's not like Elstree is up a mountain. I know this is an English summer, but that's just plain ridiculous.
How many people were walking round Hampstead Heath in bikinis - with or without cardigans on top?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Favorite places....
North of the south Island NZ, but I'll never go back now.
As a teen I hated the southern states.....now I ewonder if it would feel more like home.....not the racist gun toting bits, but the ice tea sipping, middle class nicety bits. (Coming ''back'' to UK I was always surprised not to be looked at like a sinner for not calling my parents ''sir'' and Mam'' as there and in W.I(ndies/Carribean. Those beachy places hold no allure for me whatsoever. They are beautiful....and then...after a few months, when its hurricane season and hard to get frech veg shipped in (some smaller ones have very little agriculture and all things are brought in) and things like boooks and culture and new people and broad attitudes are totally, totally foreign. That would all be different now I guess with the net.)
where would I like to go? hmm. Like misskool I'd like to see the Northern lights, and also go to iceland and sit in a thermal spring with ice all about http://www.bluelagoon.com/. I'd really like to spend time in S. America. Just after buying here DH was offered a contract there, and it would have been amazing.....but for our zoo. we thought about working it for two years, so that I went out for a bit every few weeks/months but dh wasn't up for leaving me with the place here to sort out....and we were not prepared to go through quarantine bringing these guys back if we all went....otherwise we would have gone. A friend arranges ridden tours in S.America....its a carrot I dangle in front of myself to keep trying to get better.
I'd love to se the Red fort http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Fort and can't understand why its not as famous as the Taj Mahal, which I don't think is as beautiful at all. As a child a visit to Pakistan rather scared me and put me off the whole region, but now India appeals, and TBH, wouldn't mind revisiting pakistan now. I also think some of those middle eastern areas so plagued in ''recent'' history also would be incredibly wonderful to explore in peace....I'm trying to remember the name of the ancient underground/cave city in Iran (?) ..how amazing to see that. And the Alisadr caves, and the Caspian Sea.
I really, really want to spend time in Morroco. Its ''close enough'' to not be a big dream. I was terrified when I first went to Venice that a place so hyped up couldn't live up to expectations....I was wrong about Venice, but now the fear transferred to Marrakesh!
I'm drawn to old journeys and trails...on horseback, or even camel back and I like things to be real getaways. I love thermal waters and clean natural sources of water to swim, and space. I like meeting people, and eating local food....not english or american breakfast, and I'm prepared to risk stomch bugs in trying local fruit.
One of the thing that's ruined going away a bit is anywhere we go there is asome member of family last seen by our bit of family in 1965/76/87/98 or whatever, or a family friend that we are obliged to see and they are obliged to see us. I hate that. If you then say you went without telling anyone beforehand its as if irreparable social rift has been hand riven by you and noone will ever get over it.
Incidentally., I've decided not to go with DH to Milan this time. Last time wrecked me for a week afterwards, and I was not well on landing. If I can't cope with short haul for three days I suppose the chances of me trekking the middle east and south america are slim.0 -
. Sally Bercow (the speaker's wife)
Is this a big story outside BB? I haven't seen/heard/read any news for a few days. Its a difficult balance out there, between female independance versus marital obligation to partner's duty. Do they live in a grace and favour place? If so I believe she has a ''moral duty'' to behave with decorum too...or move out. Is she behaving ''well''? apart from going in there!0 -

Amusingly, the only mention of BB in The Times is to say that she is one of the celebrities up for eviction - no mention of BB or the other eviction candidates.
She is only known as she is the wife of the speaker, so any publicity or classification as a celebrity is because of him; not much independence.
She is getting paid £160k - allegedly. She has said £100k is going to charity, £20k to her publicist, Max Clifford and she is keeping 40k.
She is behaving, in fact they all are from the brief bits I've seen. Some of them don't have much of a brain, so she comes over as relatively intelligent.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I'd like to go to the far east. Japan, China or maybe a bit further south, i haven't decided yet.
My favourite place is Dubai.
Malta has exceeded my expectations, twice!
Antigua and Florida were probably a bit underwhelming.
I think a good holiday has far more to do than just the location. Hotel, eating arrangements, spending money, transport and a few other things can make a big difference.0 -

The Red Fort's a pleasant enough place to hang out with the Locals but hasn't got the Grand splendour of the Taj - I've been to both places twice on my travels. In fact the Hidden Gem of Delhi is Humayun's Tomb, like the Taj but no marble and no crowds, fascinating place.
Traveling’s a bit like Marmite, what might appeal to me wouldn't to others. I've been lucky enough to have traveled extensively in over 100 Countries. I've particularly enjoyed my Trips to SE Asia, and more recently South America. Of course these days travelling's a breeze. Just get on the Internet find your flights and Hotel and off you go. I kind of yearn for the past, when you didn't know when (or if ) you'd arrive at places, and not the foggiest idea where you'd be staying!0 -

Favourite place I've been?
Molineux on saturday?:D
Abroad I've been to Ibiza & majorca, both were years ago though. They were ok. I've been to Belgium, & that was interesting, & I think I'd like to go back (it was a school trip!). Not been abroad much at all.
Really liked Hastings/Battle, Portmeirion. Bridgnorth is nice locally. I'll think of more shortly...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0
