You poor thing. Our place went on the market May 2010 and we have just exchanged. We had 2 broken chains, I really feel for you. Hope you soon find a new buyer.

I know exactly how you feel!

We have had three buyers having to pull out for assorted reasons ( see previous post on this page).

Now we are on buyer number 4, and as I said before, I am remaining resolutely pessimistic!

  • Thanks all for the kind comments. I just feel so despondent about the whole thing. And obviously now the timing is against us because of Christmas looming. It's just rubbish. And it shouldn't be allowed.
  • After 16 months on the market we have our only offer, which we have accepted, and have just had an offer accepted on our purchase.

Just got to keep fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong.

Well, that's it, we're now officially off the market after 17 months and two sales that fell through. There's been less interest in the house since we last lowered the price than before, so there is something fundamentally wrong, whether it's the price, the location, presentation, the estate agent or just the housing market in general. We aren't being forced to move, so we're going to stay put for a while, because it's a lovely house and looking around at houses we might have bought has made us appreciate what we've got here!

All we have to do now is get our keys off the EA, who seem to be trying to forget that six weeks ago we'd told them that the end of September was our cut-off date. We're quite stunned by their lack of proactivity (if that's a word) - having clearly told them that we were taking the house off on 30 September, I expected they'd give us at least a courtesy call last week to see what we were planning, but no, nothing. They tried to tell me a while back that they haven't lost enthusiasm for selling this house, but I'm even less convinced now than I was then!

Seems like that is the best decision for you guys- enjoy your home!
I never have any faith in any EA!

Just had an offer from a first time buyer. My property was bought for £124K in December 2007, listed it for £124K in June, reduced to £119K in august and received an absolute fiinal offer today of £115K.

I think I am going to take it. Fear is if I refuse I will loose the sale and prices may fall further. Prospects with the banks don't seem great with euozone etc and credit downratings. Probably best to cut losses and run.

I agree about taking the hit now. With the way things are, nationally and internationally, goodness only knows what sort of a hit you would have to take next year if you didn't accept this current offer. You have to weigh up the pro's and con's very carefully. It is all so very stressful, isn't it.......knowing what to do for the best?

Then if you didn't accept the offer, there would be all the stress involved of having it sitting on the EA's books all through the Winter and wondering whether or not the market will pick up in the Spring or whether things will be even worse. It is hard to know what to do for the best, really.

It is a very very difficult time to be selling a house now what with the state of the housing market, Winter coming on and the general financial situation.

I am quietly hoping for some good news myself, for Friday of next week.
