I am fairly certain that you can reject an interest rate rise - it means you can't use the cards but if you are going for a DMP it won't matter anyway. Once you start on the DMP officially a lot of your credit cards may freeze the interest. That's what happened with mine, and it made such a difference knowing that everything I paid came of the debt rather than interest payments. It is also so much easier when they stop phoning you.

there was a shop called Lemon Tree where i once lived, but it's not why i use the name. But Lemon muffins sound lush, i'll bet they're tasty.

glad you're getting some positive responses from the credit card companies.
I know it won't matter as you've already closed the account but i'm not sure the bank could have taken your daughters money as i'm under the impression that if there's two names on the account, any debt much be in both names, but then i could be completely wrong which isn't unusual.

There is a fancy up-market restaurant in Colchester called 'The Lemon Tree'. The same group also bought a local pub and ruined it by turning it into a posh nosh gastro pub.

The guy that runs the group had another establishment in the Town that was raided by the UK Border Agency. He copped a £20k fine for employing illegal workers, but before the fine was levied, he transfered everything over to a new company and liquidated the old one, £20k fine and all.

Good luck with your DMP. I just wish my son would have a LBM when it comes to spending cash.

bubble and squeak in our house used to be sort of a gravy stew with potatoes baked beans and what ever other veg was about. Left overs all in one pot type of thing.

Well done to DD for getting such good grades at such a bad school. it makes me SO angry when I hear of a school like that. Your DD managed to sort herself out, but that school has failed every other child in her year who had the potential to do well, but needed more commitement than the school could be bothered to give.

Ref the going to uni and the problem of support. I don't know whether she can get hardship payments because you are in financial difficulties? Or what about getting her into doing surveys and things now, so that she can start building up some funds of vouchers and stuff that way. Could you do these too? Maybe that way you could save amazon vouchers for her text books? Also talk to her student union about this type of stuff too.

Is her degree a specialised one where there might be bursary funding available from a company providing she works for them for x years afterwards? She may be too late to apply for this this year, but it is something to look into for next year.

Obviously there is always the option of getting some form of work, though I guess at the moment part time jobs will be hard to get. On the other hand some hard to recruit jobs like working in a care home always need people.....
    good luck

I know how hard it is when they decide how much they want something. At least your 2 older girls are just that. If DD1 wants to go to Africa, tell her she'll have to try and find some sponsorship and that you'll help her by writing a template letter for her to send to companies etc. Or that you'll email x amount of companies. Then you're being supportive but not out of pocket.

DD2 will just have to save up for one of her own. Maybe both of you could log onto the make £10 a day challenge and have a competition to see who could make the most with the money going to her macbook fund.

I've had to start giving DD the options. She wanted to go to a gym, so she was reminded that her saturday classes cost 2 children's gym memberships and that she already does a dance class. Our solution (other children were starting to call her fat even though she isn't, kids are cruel!!) was for her to do 2 after school clubs. I know your's isn't that easy but maybe there is a way somehow.
    Take care
