He was lucky to get away with that :) Both cards are HSBC cards and theoratically you shouldn't be able to transfer from one to another.

i am confused, DH got a M and S card last month and has balance transfered from and first direct card (which is HSBC) or is this different?

M&S customer service is handled by the same Indian call centre as HSBC they arn't very thorough to say the least!

When they ask you what card you want to BT from say "first cough bank cough cough" :rotfl: or even say some completely different bank! (quite an innocent mistake for us people with loads of debt on different cards) My sister used to work at HSBC and for BT's the only thing that matters is they have the CC number right the system never actually checked which bank it was with :money:

The policy of not t/x from HSBC/First Direct to M&S purely rests on the discretion of the adviser to spot and not allow. (ie. if they enter a HSBC number to transfer it will logistically work)

Don't the first few digits of the card (BIN number?) identify the card issuer? Must be a pretty poor 'system' if it can't detect a card from the same group.

I'm going back a few years so it may have changed - but what makes me think it hasn't as the above poster managed to do it! so logistically it is still possible. :)
  • I was able to Transfer from an HSBC Gold card without any problem, even told the operative that it was an HSBC account without any issues...

    Lucky I guess!

You are looking at the wrong figure. Look at the figure on page 1 of yellow copy under " other financial information". It will say total charge for credit. Then use these numbers to check what your limit will be:
    £ 1,500 £ 131.08
    £ 2,000 £ 174.77
    £ 2,500 £ 218.46
    £ 3,000 £ 262.16
    £ 3,500 £ 305.85
    £ 4,000 £ 349.54
    £ 4,500 £ 393.23
    £ 5,000 £ 436.93
    £ 5,500 £ 480.62
    £ 6,000 £ 524.31
    £ 6,500 £ 568.00
    £ 7,000 £ 611.70
    £ 7,500 £ 655.39
    £ 8,000 £ 699.08
    £ 8,500 £ 742.77
    £ 9,000 £ 786.47
    £ 9,500 £ 830.16

eg: my figure was £699.08 so I am expecting an £8k limit.

Cheers for this. Mine looks like a £4k limit which will do for me :)

I applied for this card and got the acceptance email today - I'm really happy because I'm trying really hard to get rid of my c/c debts (capital one and egg - lots of cash advances so very hard to bring down) and I was rejected by morgan stanley recently, so was a bit nervous about applying, but now I'm glad I did - can't wait to see what my credit limit is - fingers crossed it will be enough.

How long from sending off the signed agreement til the card comes through?

If you want the maths behind it, I can't help you.

If however, you only want to know what your limit is, then look two posts higher up.

Hello YB thanks for the reply,Maths isnt my strong point but got better as i got older :)

The credit limit would be a help if it covers my other cards even at 3.9 % would be a great help in reducing my interest payments :)

    Regards M
