I have a 4 years old boy and a 2 year old girl that are 'mostly' well behaved but the doctors seems to be the one place where they go wild! I dont know why, they have a childrens playroom there so i dont know if it gets them over excited? But they throw toys about and shout and scream. Im always telling them to be quiet theres poorley people in their. On occasions my daughter climbs on the chairs so i pull her down and hold her firmly to tell her no. Too some people who turn and look at that point might think im being harsh, id hate to think i could be reported for it!!
Like the OP i wouldnt mind SS doing their jobs to come and check but i imagine they are pretty full on which could be daunting when you are innocent of abuse but your parenting skills are being questioned!
I dont know how they log it on your records but surely if your cleared of any harm it would be on somesort of file to see you was not guilty?
Its a tricky situation because i dont think you can complain to anyone about being 'checked' the once. If they kept following up and putting you through hell then i probally would talk to the surgery?
Do you know the other family? Did they have a visit? they could feel the same as you?
I would suggest that it is a stress defence mechanism. The doctor's surgery is where sick people go and being sick is not pleasant. It involves tremendous uncertainty and children generally do not cope well in those situations. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
I would put in a complaint to the practice manager about the way the receptionist went about things and hope for an apology and leave it at that.0

I wonder if social services will see it that way.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

Today, Matthew, I'm going to be....
a closet psychologist! :T
My view is that the receptionist is being a nosey old trouble making busy body. Lets get this straight here, she's a receptionist. Not trained in child abuse or any other form of social care.
Thats probably why she's (just) a receptionist. Who do these people think they are? Masquerading as some kind of caring individual doesn't really cut it with me I'm afraid.
I don't think its appropriate to take legal action but I'd certainly be insisting that a full, written apology be made together with an explanation of exactly what prompted such over reaction on her part. You have been reading.....another magnificent post by garethgas :beer:0 -

I didn't realise spotting a child being abused was something you had to be educated to spot. hmm...
You're clearly too good for us working class citizens...
One of my absolute pet hates is when people look down their nose at people in certain type of jobs. "Just" a receptionist is such a patronising thing to say about somebody. I hope to god your a lawyer or a doctor or something to be making ridiculous comments about her career choice like that!
If you think so low of receptionists.. god help those in jobs paying minumum wage!! Or the people collecting your rubbish, cleaning your street, ect ect.0 -

I didn't realise they gave training to child abusers. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
That's what they would like you to think
If the child abuser kept getting it wrong, e.g., not hurting them enough, or leaving too many visible marks, would they send them for re-training?The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
