not sure this is the right section, mods please move it if you need to
a few days ago we went to the doctors, our kids were playing with a few others
one of the kids was geting out of hand, and the receptionist had to tell the kid off as the mother was doing nothing, the mother then got up and yanked the kid by there arm.
a few days later we've had a visit from social services as the receptionist wasn't sure which kid it was, so reported us all to social services
if she had such a problem with what happened, why didn't she find out who was responsible at the time, instead of draging innocent people into it
my question is, who can we put a complaint in to? and could we take legal action against them

Why, for goodness sake? They were trying to make sure a child wasn't being abused at home.0 -

Thats my point.
OP is complaining and, as I read, wanting to sue the practice for not establishing who the parent was.
It seems they have taken it as an attack on them rather than a proactive step to stop any abuse that may be going on.
I fully support the receptionist.0 -
Do you have something to hide?
Seriously though, do you really think it wise for a receptionist to say 'can I take your name so I can report you to social services?'. The woman would likely get irate and cause further problems. Although I can understand why you would be annoyed and you inconvenient it must be... at the end of the day they are just doing the 'right thing' so if you have nothing to hide you should have nothing to worry about.0 -
we don't want any money, what we want is a written apology from the receptionist, and also for them to send a letter to social services stating they now accept they were wrong, and to say sorry for wasting social services time
if they wanted her name, all they had to do was wait for the doctor to call a name, and see if it was her that went into the room0 -

Thats fine, but suggesting taking legal action? OTT0 -

You are not going to get an apology and nor do you deserve one. The NHS and local authority have heightened child protection awareness following recent failures, the clear message post Victoria Climbie, Baby P etc is if in doubt, report it.
Why exactly was the child allowed to play up if the mother was in the vicinity? Perhaps some parenting instruction is in order.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Hope is not a strategy...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!

This is ridiculous. I cannot believe you are all being so harsh on this OP. I would be livid if this had happened to me and my kids.
These people have been visited by a social worker and put under suspicion of harming their child - that is outrageous, How would you like it if the police came round to your house and rounded you up because there was burglar in the area but they were not sure who it was! Bet you would'nt be so quick to excuse them as being "proactive" then. And I also happend to think that all those of you who are claiming the OP should not be making a fuss would not be so quiet yourselves had this happened to you.
Social Services can be a law until themselves and we all know that mud can stick. That receptionist could have set this family up for real problems - I am sure there were ways she could have found out who the real culprits were.0 -

oh yeah - cos we all know social services never make mistakes!!!!0 -

No, its ridiculous to suggest taking legal action against a health worker for taking a measure to protect children. How would you like it if the police came round to your house and rounded you up because there was burglar in the area but they were not sure who it was!
It would be inconvenient, but not unexpected if I was in the vicinity of the house at the time it got burgled.Social Services can be a law until themselves and we all know that mud can stick. She could have found out better, yes. But to take legal action is ridiculous.0
