So when Long Tall Sally do their online clearance they are breaking the law by saying no returns? Interesting - I've always avoided their clearance because of that, you never know if something is going to fit do you?0

I did contact Westminster Trading Standands about this (head office comes under Westminster. Council) Sale items should not be exempt from the Distance Selling Regs, you have 7 days from the receipt of parcel to return.Anyhow, Long Tall Sally to my mind is overpriced and poor quality. I have just written them a lengthy letter about the black reefer jacket in their winter brochure - terrible material, picks up every bit of fluff, buttons off within 2 days of wearing, now button holes fraying. Got a letter back saying they were grateful for my comments but their buyers choose on the best fabrics and offer value for money......no way, similar jacket anywhere £50 or so, we are penalised for wanting a few extra inches. Go to Germany for a cheap weekend and shopping break. Size 7+ is normal and extra long trousers in most shops. Did you tall gals out there know that Next do a few longer sleeve jackets and extra long trousers which have to be ordered! they are never in store.
I just want to say that when you buy something it is YOURS. The shop does not have to take it back unless it is faulty. If the shop allows you to exchange the item great, it is more than they are legally obliged to do, as I said this in an earlier post.
If you buy a gift for someone, and the recipient returns it to the shop for an exchange, the shop have no obligations to this person. The contract was with you. The best way round this to get the shop to endorse the receipt allowing the recipient to exchange the gift if unwanted.
Basically the shop can, if they want make a Returns Policy for unwanted goods and apply whatever conditions they want. Just always remember they do not have to take YOUR stuff back, unless it is suffering from a manufacturing defect.
Whatever profit they make it none of our business. Many small independent retailers go bust because they are effectively dealing in secondhand goods always taking back stuff because people have changed their minds and they are trying to compete with the big boys and their refund policies.
Don't shop in Debenhams if their policies offend you.SallyD0 -
100% true
I am just warning others (some as you can see have fallen into it already). Any regular shop, especially bigger stores, usually have a reasonable policy in regards to returning items, so my heading was a warning for others
I wasn't discussing the profit factor, until someone mentioned, that they have to do it, as its a loss for them (the sales), soI was just responding to that!
My warning still stands, however, if you buy it online, it seems the best way round it , as newfoundglory mentioned.:beer:HAPPY TO HELP :beer:0 -
I'm not too impressed with LTS either but when the stuff is reduced to £5 and £10 it has got to be a bargain if it fits! I've had a couple of bits from Tall Girls and they are great but most of my trousers come from Next, length is usually ok, the quality is good, fit usually ok (they don't seem to have extra length on the rise which is where I have a prob with LTS) and v. cheap in the sales.0

This is absolutely rubbish.
Items reduced by more than 50% are exchange only, and have to be exchanged within 28 days.
If the customer has a Debenhams card then there is a no quibble return on the purchase, be it 30%, 50% or 70%.
If you ask, they will refund the 50% or more items onto a gift card.
This was all changed on the 1st September this year.No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -

So why is it rubbish?
I have tried doing that in the past, and they refused it, even to give a voucher!!!!!!!. I was posting my experiance!
Wouldn't call that rubbish! Sounds quite true to me!
Just intrested, have you tried returning anything recently?:beer:HAPPY TO HELP :beer:0 -
Sorry, I was reading quickly.
The exchange policy was totally overhauled in September as I said.
50% or more reduction - exchange or giftcard or refund on the Debenhams card
If they refuse, tell them to check their policies, our store had strict orders to change all posters etc to show the new policy and staff had 2 hours training to make sure they knew the new rulesNo longer using this account for new posts from 20130
