I don't see why any shop should 'have' to take back an item just because it doesnt fit / you change your mind. Shops are shops, not libraries.

Would you take back a pint of milk to tescos because you'd changed your mind??

who wants to lock their money up in a company like that?!! - what sort of company is that nowadays!!??!!
ONLY BUY IF YOU ARE 100% SURE YOU WANT IT!!

... is it just me who only buys if i want it in the first place??
  • Is this the same with buying off their website in the sale?

They cannot get out of the distance selling regulations.
  • Be careful with Debenhams, as they are well known for whacking their prices up in the sales.

I bought an iron that I saw for £40 reduced from £80, then looked around on the internet for the same product to see what a bargain I had just got. The same product was listed for about £45 anyway.

    Be warned!

Yes its right about them not giving you your money back if the item is reduced by 50% or more, I hadn't shopped in Debenhams for years and saw no signs saying anything about it, when i returned the goods i was told i could only have a Credit note or an exchange, I challenged them and was told it's our policy and has been for 2 years, But madam had you paid by Debenhams Card then you would have got a refund, Would you like a Debenhams card now ??? Sell Sell Sell !!! Anything to try and get money from you !!

obviously this is ok if you are buying an item for yourself, that you have had time to try on, but what if its for the kids - you cant try it on them if they are not with you!! and thats todays luxury, being able to take it home and decide at your own lesuire!! the policy about exchange only is ALL sale items and not only if 50% or more.

regarding exchanging for another item - yes debenhams do sell an awful lot of different goods but you could find them cheaper elsewhere!!

Also, any regular shop would understand, trying an item on a two year old, is a nightmare, at its best, with the amount of people in the shops, and no changing rooms, make it impossible. Also, someone mentioned earlier, taking for a close relative, is a normal thing to do nowadays. If a shop cannot do such a thing, I personally don't think they are welcome to be considered as a major store. Even my local small boutiques, are happy for me to take home, and try out!

just BE CAREFUL AND ONLY buy if you are 100% sure!!

  • I have just been talking to my aunt who bought her hubby a coat at full price before Christmas. It didnt fit so she took it back today (with both her credit card receipt and gift receipt) and they told her she could only have a refund of the sale price (it had been reduced by £8.00). After a bit of arguing she eventually got the full £40.00 refunded even though when she bought it she was told she could have a full refund if it didnt fit.

i tend to avoid debenhams nowadays since this refund policy started. but once i had bought something in the sale and there was absolutely nothing i wanted to exchange for in the sales so swapped it for a full price item and got it refunded at another till. a bit of hassle but i'd rather get all my money back than spend ages trawling through everything again.
  • They won't be making money on it and so do not want it returned weeks later when they won't be able to sell at all.

no no no... even when they do 'buy one get one free' they still make profit..so don't assume that they are losing money on a 70% sale..not true at all. no business works for free. A lot of these products come from very cheap sources.

half the problem with debenhams is their employees dont follow the same policy - i mean if you have a receipt with the full amount on it - what more proof does one need to get the full money back - and im sure she wasnt too happy - and thats another lost customer. im not too sure its all worth it for them. i know too many people who wont step foot into that shop - what ever the price you need customer service!!

i know for one i WONT be buying there. There are many shops out there and i dont want to give my business to such an awkward policy!!
