Has anyone tried Sainsburys Basics Unsalted Butter £1.10 for 250g,? I bake cakes and use unsalted butter and was wondering if this has a pleasant taste.

thanks Karen, I have added your salt to the front page :)

I have bought this to cut up into little triangles to dip into their Basics Hoummous and it is delicious! HTH.
  • I find most sainsburys basics good, but the three that I dont rate are washing up liquid or the shampoo or conditioners. However I used up the basics shampoo as a shower gel/wash, and the basics conditioner, left my hair a greasy mess, but I used it to shave my legs, and it worked a treat :)

Smartprice Milk Choc - 30p for 100g - is delicious! Was surprised at how nice it is, tastes just like Galaxy but a fraction of the price.

Smartprice Dark Choc (same price) isn't as nice just for eating, but goes down well in baking, and again a fraction of the price of proper cooking choc.

Smartprice digestives are nice as well (recently gone up to 50p a pack from 28p tho!), actually prefer them to McVities now, someone brought some McV's into work and they seem quite greasy in comparison, left an oily mark on the tissue I put them onto on my desk!

I know someone earlier said Smartprice loo roll is to be avoided at all costs, but I always buy it and think it's fine - but I've never been one to spend a fortune on fancy quilted loo roll etc to know the difference!

Smartprice tinned toms are good too (about 32p a tin), and the Smartprice bags of bananas (£1.15 a bag) and apples (99p a bag), no different to the "non value" ones.

Oooh and Smartprice soft cheese (65p a tub) is lovely too, no different to Philly.

Will come back if I think of anymore, I always shop at Asda and buy quite a lot of SP stuff!

    Worth buying
    Sainsbury's Basics Pineapple Pieces - 18p - lovely
    Sainsbury's Basics Kidney beans - 17p - great
    Sainsbury's Basics Rice Pudding - 17p?
    Sainsbury's Basics Mozzerella - 45p agree
    Sainsbury's Basics Garlic Bread - 50p - yep

    Not worth buying
Sainsbury's Basics Pita bread - 25p (tastes fine but falls apart)
    Sainsbury's Basics Swing Bin Liners - 50p
    Sainsbury's Basics Penne - 32p disagree
Sainsbury's Basics Washing Up Liquid - 35p true

I agree mostly, but the basics penne is very good in my opinion.
I really like basics, smart price and value creme caramels and chocolate mousses - all three brands are lovely. The creme caramels are 45p and the mousse around 22p.
Basics snack crackers are very good (a tuc-type biscuit)
basics breakfast muffins and teacakes are great.
Tesco value tortilla chips are fab, as are all three brands of ready salted crisps (and the small bag makes me feel a bit more virtuous)

    Sainsbury's:
Basic's Chicken Curry 48p a can (though I'm sure it was 40p a can a week or 2 ago) really yummy
Basic's Chicken and Mushroom noodles 16p bit like a pot noodle
Basic's Jumbo toilet rolls 6 pk £1.75 really soft better than I expected
    Basic's Garlic Bread 74p for 2
    Basic's Houmous 85p really yummy

    Asda:
Smartprice Crisps 12pk - 71p quite nicely flavoured, not too much not too bland.

Went to Asda this morning, not one single tin of SP Baked Beans, the area where they keep them was full of Heinz & Asda own brand..... they better not have done away with them, like so many other SP stuff grrrrrr....
