Lunch time we had smoked salmon with rocket salad, I opened a bottle of bucks fizz..............a mince pie with a cuppa in the afternoon, not too much, just pleasantly full.............

:bdaycake: Happy Birthday E'lass and Granny Broon :bdaycake:
Well it was a really wonderful Chrismas day here in EastEnder-land. Nice lie in, fantastic pressies which were opened with a bottle of the fizzy stuff.
We had given my neighbours a bottle of wine, home made bread and a pat of HM butter last night and they very kindly gave us some delicious home made cookies today. I am rubbish at making cookies so they were a real treat.
BF was on very best behaviour all day :A and made a fantastic venison joint cooked in red wine sauce for our dinner. I did the roasties, parsnips in maple syrup, carrots with thyme and instead of sprouts we had savoy cabbage cooked for a few minutes in boiling water then well drained, tossed in melted butter and sprinkled with toasted pine nuts. Oh and Yorkies of course.
We are now both very stuffed and chilling out nicely. The washing up is being done in stages so as not to be too much of a chore; I can't work out how 2 people managed to use every knife, fork and spoon in the place :rotfl:
Tomorrow we have guests who we are taking to feed the local deer, squirrels and lord knows what else  . After that we will cook the turkey, I had ordered a smallish one but Mr T delivered a monster! The leftovers should last us until next Christmas! I prepared enough vegetables today for both meals.
Roz, everyone has at least one disasterous "Special" dinner in their lifetime. Don't be upset, you will have learned so much from the experience, the next one you make will be fantastic. (((HUGS)))
Right, time for a little glass of Tia Maria
Night all, enjoy what is left of Christmas :santa2:My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

OK, I have taken the wise advice of all of you and had lots to drink and consumed lots of chocolate :rotfl:
We eventually ate the beef 2hrs after the veg :rotfl: can see the funny side now but was genuinely distraught at the time!! On the plus side, OH has promised to learn how to cook a roast dinner so that we can split the load (blame?!) next year, so one good thing has come of it all!!
Thank you all for being so kind and patient with my moans today!!! Hope you enjoy the rest of the evening... I have a bottle of white which has yet to be touched and as it was a christmas present, it would be very very rude of me not to have sampled it before christmas was over0 -
:T :T :T :T Thats the spirit Roz (Ooops! I mean wine

Sounds like you have a very nice, considerate OH there as well, :AMy first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

Good evening everyone,
I hope every one has had a lovely Christmas, its been lovely here. The children loved all their presents, then we had the treasure hunt, where they got their main presents (a nintendo DS), and it was lovely when they were surprised and so greatful, made all the scrimping and saving worth it!!!
Our lunch was also lovely, the children had never had goose before and both enjoyed it, and considering it was one of the £12.99 ones from Lidls, i was surprised how much meat was on it, plenty left for sandwiches the next couple of days, and ive frozen 2 large portions in gravy, which was also very tasty!!! The other good thing with goose, is i now have a large quantity of goose fat for roasties, ive frozen some, and the rest should last a while too!!!!
I also had some lovely pressies, so all in all, a lovely day, washed down with some lovely champagne that i won in a raffle a few months ago (sorry that everything is 'lovely', but it has been!!!)
Anyway, after a late night, and early morning, im hoping for an earlier night tonight, so just going to finish watching the Vicar of Dibley and then bed.
Hope everyone has a lovely evening,
Take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx0 -
Happy belated birthday to Edi & Granny
Roz, you did make me chucklewe all have our disasters. Would have been awful though at the time. Well it's Boxing Day here now and it's raining. DD is still in bed and DH has wandered up to do more work on the house. We are going up there to paint when I bring morning tea. Better keep going. I"m glad everybody's day was a happy one.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Evening ALL - hope we have survived the day
Im off to bed shortly, very tired and stil got the headache from yesterday and this morning
:T well done Roz, its not nice when things dont go to plan, but at least your smiling now. Perhaps you could have another attempt over the New Year wk end with cooking dinner! Good luck...
 sorry its a bit late but happy birthday to Edinburghlass & grannybroon, My OH hates his birthday, his is on Xmas eve. My grandad's was on Christmas day also. So my heart does go out to you both.
Went to OH parents house for tea, his grandparents was there also. I was too tired to go anywhere, but had to make the effort. Kids was really good, so I allowed my DS stay up and watch Little Britain
I brought my daughter a learn to knit pack - containing wool & needles. Ive never knitted before ( only crochet) and Ive completed it. It was meant to be a scarf, but as I didn't use all the wool I will make it into a wooly hat for her. Really pleased with my achievement. :T Will have to buy her a new pack now t replace the one I used. So DLB, a little more practise from me and I will knit your scarves instead of crochet for next yr for you. lol. Hope your family/friends was pleased with the one's I did. it was only this morning I heard the kids. Not thru the night, Bless em, they sounded really excited. I had to wake my 2 up just after 8am.
OH brought me Big brother DVD interactive game, he said I was having withdrawal symptoms, but should be ok as celeb big bro starts early Jan, he also got me Pete's autobiography. I was spoilt this yr. Plenty of smellies, booze, perfume, dvd's, cd's. pyjama's, coat, and loads of books, incl the Hairy Bikers cook book - cant wait to get stuck into that.
Not much planned for tomorrow, will nip to Wyndsors shoe shop, and stock up on the kids trainers, I do this every yr. Buy bigger sizes which last thru out the yr. Last yr, I got 10 prs - variety of trainers, boots & shoes (for me) and shoes for OH, all for £50.
OH's car ends on ebay tomorrow night, he has plenty of people watching, and about 8 bids so far. So fingers crossed it goes for a reasonable price.
Good night all -

Well night all. It has been a lovely day, and the easiest Christmas dinner I've done in a long time. They had steak instead of turkey and all the trimmings, but I did do chipolatas, roast potatoes and bread sauce, only cos I would live off the latter. Made a veggie souffle quiche last night for me, and loads left over. Cheated with puds as usual......loads of mini sweets from Iceland for anyone who wanted them.
Santa was good to everyone, and it has been a really relaxing day.
Roz, glad that you ended up smiling, it honestly isn't worth all the fuss. We all have disasters and it's better just to laugh it off and stuff yourself with choccies or crisps/nuts whatever, with a good splash of Christmas spirits.
It will give you a talking point for years....trust me on this one! Anyway, it wasn't your fault it was Delia's - have found her timings pretty naff, but her recipe ideas are good. Take the idea and follow what you know is right!
Glad that everyone had a nice day.
Night all. :santa2:0 -
Thank you all for the birthday wishes and belated birthday wishes to grannybroon :j0

I bought some from Tescos for my roasters too, very good they were too. The best before date is February 2008!!!!“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0
