Freakin Grammar Police

Options
Havent been on here for a long long time due to petty arguments, bullying and the FREAKIN GRAMMAR POLICE !!!

Really, is there any need for it ??

Some people have difficulty with writing what they are trying to express. Some can't type very well therefore easier just to bash out their thoughts. But why why why do these higher than mighty people seem to appear on many threads, have nothing to add thats positive but just pick up on bad spelling grammar etc ???

Why not get themselves a job as a proof reader where errors are to be pointed out and not at someone just looking for everyday advice ??

This infuriates me as my daughter is dyslexic and has problems with paragraphs etc. So does this mean she can't post on here unless she makes sure her post is 100% grammatically correct ?

Honestly some people really need to get a life and understand that we are not all the same and neither do we strive to be.

And breathe

Some posts can be read in different ways, or be hard to follow when punctuation etc. is ignored. Also many words have more than one meaning according to context. On top of that a lot of similar sounding words have different spellings and meanings.

Yes I understand that this can happen. But surely more polite to ask them to explain rather than jump on them for spelling/grammar.

If they have nothing to add to the thread then really does it matter if the grammar is a bit off ?

    My opinion only obviously

    Actually, they can.

It's a common misconception that they cannot, caused by teachers telling young children not to do it (because they often start new sentences with conjunctions when they should simply have carried on with the initial sentence). In fact, you can start a paragraph with a conjunction if you wish.

    e.g.

Wrong: I went shopping today. And bought a book.

Correct: I read a very interesting book, today. And what did I learn from it? That Charles the second ...

You do that in an English exam and i'm afraid you'll fail.

There should be an apostrophe in "Haven't".

Seriously, no one should be criticising the posting style of someone who is dyslexic. Unfortunately it's not always possible to tell. Just tell her to mention it and anyone picking fault will get very short shrift from other posters.

From the other side of the fence, it's tiring trying to interpret some posts because the poster simply hasn't bothered to try and post comprehensibly.

There's a difference between the odd typographical error, dyslexia and lazy idiots using inappropriate txt spk IMHO :)

So what you are saying is; you shouldn't start sentences with conjunctions?

Well if we're being pedantic, you've put an apostrophe in "Haven't". If you're going to reproduce quotes, then you should reproduce them as they were written. In this case that should be "Havent".
