Interesting conundrum...if dyslexics spell and write awfully and OCDs correct them then who is right?

I don't mind people correcting my posts if I've made big errors, such as using the wrong word or something... but when someone, especially in a debate, will come back with 'There should be an apostrophe in I'm' it really bugs me. Firstly half the time I'm typing on my ipod and that's hard enough, and secondly, don't you have better things to do?

I know how to spell and even if I didn't its nobody's business to try and educate me, especially not on an online forum!

It's the correction of spelling or grammar without any input into the actual topic that irritates me. It's as though they lurk around posts just waiting to pounce on an error, but have no interest at all in the topic. Never comment.

Why not? if you suffer from OCD then the pain of reading badly written text can be quite intense. And why oh why is it taken as an insult rather than a learning opportunity?

    A learning opportunity ?

Well if you think that everyone who posts on here with bad grammar or spelling appreciate their posts being torn apart and corrected then carry on.

Personally I think it's insulting to just pick up on the errors without actually giving any input on the original topic.

As I said before, we don't know why their posts aren't 'perfect'.

One of the reasons people like clear sentences and good grammar is because it shows the poster is making some effort in the posting, which is only respectful when asking for advice or discussing a point. Rather, something like "plz hlp i wnat a lone 4 10k n hav bad crdt" and "Please help - I want a loan for £10k, but have a poor credit history" are going to get very different responses as the second shows that the poster has made some effort with the question, and will respect the answers they are asking people to give up their time to give. Lazy writing doesn't value the reader.

Yes I agree with you. Text speak is appalling. But a missed apostrophe or a comma in the wrong place is hardly a hanging offence.

People on these forums are from all different backgrounds, different levels of education and most likely different countries, therefore not everyone is going to have picture perfect posts.

text chav speech has no place anywhere...it is really annoying...
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

I don't think dyslexics think much about those with OCD. To dylexics, they're just a type of fish.

Well if you think that everyone who corrects grammar or spelling does it for kicks then carry on.

Personally I think it is insulting to ignore the corrections without giving any thought to the corrector.

As I said before, we don't know why they pick up on grammar and spelling and demand 'perfection'.
