What does really annoy me though is people screaming back "I'm dyslexic" as an excuse when it is obvious they aren't from the way they have made errors or the way they are inconsistent. I have friends who are dyslexic and their e-mails are always perfect for spelling and grammar as they check everything. To me, claiming you have dyslexia when you don't to deflect criticism is wrong and it demeans the issue of dyslexia.
I agree. I know a couple of dyslexic people and all it means is that it takes them longer to check their spelling and grammar, because they check everything a number of times.
Dyslexia doesn't magically stop you from being able to spell if you take the time with it. I suffer from dyscalculia and it means that I can't pull numbers out of thin air, and it may take me a few seconds to work out what change I need to give somebody.
Yes, some people will get impatient with me when it takes me two or three attempts to be absolutely sure I'm right, and more than a few eyebrows have been raised when I resort to (shock horror) grabbing a pen and paper and working it out methodically, but I do it so that I know I'm correct.
I don't just throw random coins and notes at customers, or ring up completely wrong sums of money and shout, "I'm dyscalculaic! How dare you criticise me!" I just take that little bit longer to make sure I don't make any mistakes.
Swings and roundabouts, though, my dyslexic colleague often asks me how to spell, but he's really good at maths.0 -

I don't think being dyslexic gives you carte blanche to make posts that are flooded with errors but it must be very annoying if you are dyslexic and someone picks you up for an odd error when you've spent ages checking your post as best you can. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

I agree. However, it works both ways. I've seen so many posts where the OP says something like:
"I NEED HELP WITH THE THING BUT I DID SOMETHING AND NOW THEY SAID I SAID THEY LIKE WAS BECAUSE DIDNT KNOW WHO BUT HELP ME THEY WONG! WHO LEGAL I WANT SUE NO COMPENSATIONS BUT THE CHILDRN MITE BE HURT WUNCE MAYBE!"
When the first reply is, "I have no idea what you just said, can you write a bit more clearly so we can help?"
OP has replied with:
"OMFG IM DISLEXIX! HOW VERY DARE YOU!"0 -
I think I've fed the troll POLLYCAT enough, I'm bored with HER now and unless there's more discussion which is actually on-topic, it's 'Bye Bye' from me.
Bye Bye Pollycat-you are the weakest link.0
