and its not the first time ive knocked on a door many times then put a card through only to have customer say"he didnt knock but just left a card"
Why wouldnt i knock when id rather give you the letter or parcel than carry it all the way back to office, think about it now.

Yeah but if you read the earlier posts what people are saying is that they are getting the 'tried to deliver' card left but the post person doesn't have the parcel with them

Yeah what did he hit the nail with ,a chocolate teapot;)
It's not like that,i mean !!!!!! goes on in the whole country, not just mail stuff
    but life in general.
Crime, bad workers of allsorts, ect ect ect are everywhere, not just in the smoke.

He is a she and I'm well aware of what goes on in the country - was pointing out that my experience and that of others of the postal service in London leads me to believe it is worse there than other places. This includes threats being made to a friend who complained about the service they were receiving!

What kinda threats. Name and shame them. If it was threats tell the police, see how smart RM is then.

I used to be under the impression that recorded items were kept seperate from the regular post. Not so! In the morning when I collect the sacks of mail/parcels for my walk, the recorded items are in there with everything else.

I used to be under the impression that OPG would do their own sorting. ;)

I have to ask - why do royal mail, instead of knocking your door / ringing bell when htey have a parcle for you, do they put a card through instead?

Its not the first time i have been awake (about 6am) and alert, and the postie has not came with a parcel but infact a card saying he had just tried to knock my door - thus expecting me to collect it....

this is a late reply but.. this happend to me the other week, i was half awake and heard a van pull up (no doorbell/knocking) then heard somthing go through the door but i was too tired to get up and check, my mum however was awake and up making some toast and saw the van drive past

she phoned RM up to complain and they tried to make out she was Deaf supposedly from old age (she is only 50..), they also said they will never just put "sorry you were out" tickets through the door.

personally i think the postie forgot since the job is pretty repetitive,
i used to forget to ring peoples doorbells when i was doing betterware...
at least now i know i wasn't going insane :P

What is the sitaution with posties using thier own car to transport mail??I often wonder what would happen if the car was stolen or broken into while the postman is delivering. Also does their car insurance cover this - the liability must be huge as they could be carrying £1000's in cheques etc.???

I knew quite a few that did this. Are you listening, Sean??? Nope. The managers suspect it goes on but nothing ever happens about it. Well depends on the quality of the manager really....

Mostly they work FROM their car - that is - we have a typical walker, his duty normally involves say 6 pouches. He can only carry two on a folding trolley so needs to pick 4 up. The van driver would normally do this or you have so-called safe drops ie shops, people's porches etc. Sometimes post boxes. You can earn a whole twenty five pounds in one year if you let postie drop his sacks in your porch fnarrrrr......but I digress

A great many drivers are miserable swines and won't drop bags past a certain time. So postie has to figure out a way of keeping the bags on the walk but safe. Hence postie's car.

    Think that's right

Just £25 a year??? Thats nothing!
  • Postmen in my area are quite reliable these days atleast in my part of London. Even used to get apologies from the postman for someone clearly sending bogus letters to my address under a bogus name.

Used to have issues a few years ago had a guy that purposely put a card through the letter box with the standard "tried to deliver" funny thing was I had been by the door fitting the floor panel so I opened the door right away gave him a funny look and he handed over my package heh. Never saw him again after that day.
  • The only way to stamp all this out is to complain.
Yes it's a pain doing it,but i can be done online here
All complaints are looked at and forwarded to the relevant office, the Manager will see it and pull the postie up.

In Belfast they have a big auction amongst the staff of things that have been lost and never claimed.

I think they had a few issues though this year and it was knocked on the head. People apparently used to get some really cracking stuff.
