Despite the price rises, I doubt standard mail is considered so sacrosanct. (No offence Jarvissa) The number of losses would seem to back this up!
My line manager told me that the amount of mail lost per year is ~15 million items, which does sound like an awful lot I know... but he also said that several million items are handled each week, and so the amount lost is really only less than 1% (he may even have said 0.1%). I do agree that thats whatever % too much, but when you employ 240K people, there will be some incompetants and some crooks in there. Another statistic I learnt is that of the lost/delayed items each year, ~80% are those destined for/originating from (ie: those that must pass through) London delivery offices.Wins for 2009: Nada, Zip, Zilch0 -
i do use recorded delivery for ebay - once the person has signed they cannot cliam they did not receive it.
The red elastic band sall over our floor outside flat dirve me mad however - my 2 yr old seems intent on trying to pick up everyone he spots...0 -
I also used Recorded for my ebay items over £10 and up to £32 just because that extra 68p could save a lot of hassle with people falsely claiming item not received.0

i thought that recoreder delivery means that the receiver has to sign for it ie proof of posting for the sender and proof of receipt as well..'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0

Pleased to hear that you are impressed with the dedication, efficiency and integrity of your postie colleagues jarvissa. I've never worked for the post and have no connection with them at all, but my post has always been delivered, and I am getting quite long in the tooth now. That is why I am afraid I have never ever in my life believed anyone's story of an item having been 'lost in the post' if the fact that it is missing gives them some advantage or other. I do believe the item has gone missing when it causes them a problem of some kind. That's just my personal take on things.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I have to ask - why do royal mail, instead of knocking your door / ringing bell when htey have a parcle for you, do they put a card through instead?
Its not the first time i have been awake (about 6am) and alert, and the postie has not came with a parcel but infact a card saying he had just tried to knock my door - thus expecting me to collect it....Never do things tomorow when you can do them today.0 -
I have to say i think the service I get from the Royal Mail is great whe have fantastic posties and I have had no problems sending stuff (apart from the weather related problems this week).0

When we lived in London the postie used to put the card saying 'tried to deliver a parcel' through the letterbox without actually having the parcel with him!!! My friend discovered this when she opened the door to go out just as he was putting the card through and said she'd take the parcel from him. Not sure if it was offical RM policy but it was v inconvenient. i think some posties in London are a law unto themselves  Not had the same probs since we moved.0
